The Adventure Club of the Pierre Charles Secondary School is playing it’s part in keeping the youths of the south active and occupied with activities that will keep them off the streets.
The mission statement of the club is “to expose the students to what Dominica has to offer and to foster an appreciation of the natural, unspoilt beauty of our beloved country which includes getting to know various communities and enjoying the natural attractions in Dominica”. The motto of the club is “Discover Dominica and enjoy it to the fullest”.
Recently, the PCSS Adventure Club has successfully completed a few segments of the Waitukubuli National Trail (WNT) with the most recent being Segment 5 (Pond Casse to Castle Bruce) which was done on Saturday 25th February, 2012. This segment was fairly easy and took the Adventurers about 4.5 hours to complete. At the end of the hike, the Adventurers relaxed at the mouth of the Castle Bruce River where most of them took a refreshing dip in the water.
Three weeks prior to this hike, on Saturday 4th February, 2012, the PCSS Adventure Club tackled Segment 13 (Penville to Capuchin) of the WNT. This segment offered the students a glimpse of history and nature and meandered through old estates and abandoned farmlands while providing spectacular views of the towering trees, rugged landscapes and neighboring islands. This was an 8 km or 5 mile hike which was classified as moderate with an estimated walking time of 4 hours; however, the adventurers completed the hike in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
On Saturday 21st January, 2012, the PCSS Adventure Club did Segment 14 (Capuchin to Cabrits) of the WNT. This segment showcased Dominica’s rugged northern shoreline and coastal marine life and traversed communities providing an opportunity to enjoy a local community experience. This is in par with the mission statement of the club. It was a fairly easy hike, though marked as moderate and was completed in 3 hours as opposed to the estimated time of 4 hours.
The club has done other segments of the WNT in the past namely Segment 10 (Colihaut Heights to Syndicate Heights) on Saturday 5th November, 2011 and Segment 3 (Bellevue Chopin to Wotten Waven) on Saturday 2nd April, 2011. The coordinator of the club and the assistant coordinator have to date completed 10 segments of the WNT. They also spearhead a hiking group of teachers and principals of the southern part of the island.
Apart from hiking the trails, the PCSS Adventure Club visits many other natural and physical attractions of Dominica. The club has visited many waterfalls, including Bwa Neff Falls, Trafalgar Falls, Sari-Sari Falls, Middleham Falls, Spanny Falls, Denier Falls, Milton Falls and the Emerald Pool.
Additionally, the members of the club have enjoyed quite a bit of Dominica’s beaches, both on the east coast and west coast of the island. Other areas that the club visited includes Cold Soufriere, Chaudière Pool, Perdu Temps, Miracle Valley, Fresh Water Lake (Roseau Valley), the Tete Morne to Soufriere Trail, Glassy and L’Escalier Tete Chien to name a few.

Well done guys. Am jealous. I have been doing the trail myself but have not gone recently because can’t find company to do it. All my friends keep backing out of it.
so the objective is only to keep them occupied?…it probably is being done…but how much counseling is being done…i would have loved to read about that…I’m not taking about counseling when a kid ask for help…but being proactive…counsel these kids about sex and relationships..teach them determination and dedication …they need that …anyways good job still
this article is about the ADVENTURE CLUB of PCSS…….what you mentioned is being done….the Adventure Club is not about that
well they should start
