TC Sunbeam Preschool will today (Friday) have a Coconut Exhibition. The exhibition will display items made from the coconuts by the children and their families.
The Exhibition of Family Projects on the Coconut is one of the activities scheduled on the Calendar of activities of the Early Childhood Department.
The coconut projects were a form of getting parents and children working together during Family Focus Week.
Organizers say everyone knows that the coconuts are one of the wonder foods on earth that have multiple health benefits and students will now have a better understand of the uses and values of the coconut.
In addition, putting the exhibition together has learning experience for the families, children and teachers, the organizers say.
Some of the items on exhibit at the school are coconut cheese, tablet, cake, bags, miniature windmills, cups and brooms.
See photos of items from the exhibition below.
The coconut business is a huge business now. Oil is now being replaced by coconut oil. There is a huge market for so many of our resources and we just not taking advantage of these things.
Coconut cooking oil
Cooking spray
bottled coconut water
thats just to name a few
Chocolate is a huge market and the worlds supply of cocoa is dimishing and we can take advantage of these by selling our cocoa at high market prices.
Jamaican coffee is sold in the USA at almost $60 usd a pound why cant we capitalize on that. Farmers could be making a killing on coffee and cocoa
So much we can make with and from coconut, thanks TC Sunbeam Preschool for reminding me..could eat some right now
That is absolutely wonderful and very good work. Both by the students and the instructors. Creative and innovative. Anyone willing to post a recipe for coconut rough-cake? I have bought very tasty and crisp rough-cake in Whitchurch supermarket and would like to bake cakes like that. Thanks.
This is very good work, I would like to eat one of each. They for get coconut water, love it.
Look at the amount of stuff we can produce from coconut and we brokes ?
Dear TC SUNBEAM, especially Aunty Patsy & Staff and to the young innovators, entrepreneurs, sculptors & crafts specialist, culinary artist and their parents.
Congratulations for such a wonderful exhibition. I am most impressed but not surprised since you have helped nurture my daughter Dely (19 yrs) now at university, my sons Michael (17) at college and Alex (5).. Thanks to you all for such great contribution to Dominica in the field of education.
in my opinion TC SUNBEAM-Pre school deserves a service award come next independence awards. This should prompt the Ministry of education to have annual exhibitions like these among the Pre-school and primary schools focusing on foods and products we produce.
Essentially, this could be the reincarnation of a grow a grow local, buy local movement with elements of conservation and recycling, health & wellness in an eco-environment.
This is the best way to nurture a new generation who would live, breath and embody the eco-friendly nature Island brand.
CONGRATULATIONS TC SUNBEAM, Aunty PATSY & STAFF and especially PRE-SCHOOLERS: the young innovators, entrepreneurs, sculptors & crafts specialist, culinary artist and their parents !!!
