Preschoolers and children attending day care facilities in the Roseau North braved the rain on Monday as they embarked on an activity in the form of a March and Mini Exhibition in observance of Commonwealth Day.
The mini exhibition was also held at the St Alphonsus Preschool.
Commonwealth Day was celebrated on Monday under the theme: “A Young Commonwealth”.
The march was held from the Pottersville Savannah to the Lindo Park in Goodwill.
Principal of the Bright Beginnings Centre (BBC) in Roseau, Joycelyn Laronde, said it’s never too early to teach children about the 53 states that make up the Commonwealth.
Laronde believes that the activity should be held island-wide with other schools participating.
“I think the preschools and daycares should all come on board and work in their own district and bring out some aspect of the Commonwealth to their students,” she stated.
In terms of education, Laronde the activity will assist the children greatly.
“They already know the islands of the Commonwealth and how they can go about to research that island and see all the importance and the different things they do in the different islands … so it will help them greatly in their school work,” she explained.
Preschools that participated in the activity were; Christian Union Mission Preschool, Fond Cole preschool, Oasis Preschool, St Alphonsus Preschool, TC Sunbeam Preschool and Yam Piece Preschool.
I’m endorsing Laura’s Day and Night care. Best daycare ever. I usually say my daughter is going to school because she learns everything.
