Entrance to Portsmouth Secondary School

Over 200 students at the Portsmouth Secondary School (PSS) who have excelled academically and in sports will be recognized and awarded today (Friday).

Teacher at the school, Fernella Wenham, said the awards ceremony is geared at raising the standards of the institution.

She says it also serves as a motivation for the students, she said.

“Students having an average of 70 percent and above will receive an award for their hard work and performance. We have it for the subject areas of Maths, English, Literature, History, Social Studies and the other subjects we teach at the school,” Wenham noted.

Students who excelled in sports will also be awarded.

“Our athletes will be recognized and those who have shown exemplary behavior, school spirit, leadership initiative, perfect attendance and those who don’t have the average but have made great effort and improve over the years,” she explained.

Washway Douglas, Sarah Austrie, among others will be recognized for their contribution towards the school.

The ceremony got underway at 9:30 am at the RBD Cinema under the theme “Aspiring to be shining examples of Excellence”.
