Rotaract Club of Roseau and other Rotaract Clubs in the Caribbean have been called upon to lead the movement for change in the Caribbean.
That call came from Youth Affairs Minister, Justina Charles, as she addressed the young people during their 25th regional conference, which concluded here over the weekend.
She said while the practice of good citizenship becomes more and more challenging, “as young leaders you will be obligated to take action and adopt a lifestyle that will ensure that your respective communities are healthy, safe, and secure.”
Over 35 clubs and more than 200 delegates were represented at the regional conference which ran from June 10-12th, 2011.
The minister also told delegates that they have a responsibility to “promote peace and good will.”
“You will be required to lead by example, while observing the democratic principles of equality, justice and freedom,” she added.
As part of the conference the clubs conducted two community service projects; a donation of school supplies to the Warner Primary School and a feeding of the less fortunate initiative in St. Joseph.
At the district assembly, the club ratified the nomination of Vishi Beharry out of Trinidad as District Rotaract Representative. He replaced Angele Menderzone of Suriname who served the club in that position for one year.
Meanwhile, the club of the year award went to the Rotaract Club of Genesis in Suriname at the awards ceremony on Sunday evening. The Rotaract Club of Arima in Trinidad won the the best community service project and best international service project awards. while the Rotaract Club of Roseau received a special recognition award for being the host country of the 25th district conference.
Featured speaker at the Rotaract Club closing and awards ceremony was high court judge Justice Birnie Stepehenson Brooks who is herself a member of the Rotary family.
The weekend conference also included visits to various scenic spots in Dominica.
Nice! Keep up the good work

Many congratulations go out to the Rotaract Club of Arima for their continued excellence and dedication to enrichment of the lives of others in their community. Keep up the great work!
To Admin: There are a few errors in this report. Vishi Beharry is from Trinidad not Guyana. Trinidad and Tobago did not dominate the awards. The Rotaract Club of Arima in Trinidad won Community Service Project of the year but the Club of the Year went to the Rotaract Club of Genesis in Suriname which dominated.
