Six schools to participate in bin painting competition

Six primary schools will participate in the Primary Schools Bin Painting Competition, one of the activities organized for Tourism Awareness Month 2011.

Bins painted by students of the Mahaut Government School, Roseau Primary School, Goodwill Primary School, Christian Union Primary School, Soufriere Primary School and St. Luke’s Primary School will be judged at 10.30 am on Wednesday May 25, 2011 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

This was part of a Bin Painting Competition organized in collaboration with the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation. Bins, fabricated by the Corporation were donated to the schools for disposal of paper waste in keeping with the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle theme and students were required to paint one bin in keeping with the said theme.

The prize giving ceremony will take place immediately following the judging of the of the bins on May 25 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. Bins will be judged on originality, creativity, applicability to the theme and use of colours.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:
1st prize: Whale Watching tour with Anchorage Hotel and Dive Centre
2nd prize: Thursday night dinner and entertainment at Anchorage Hotel
3rd prize: Lime at Anchorage Hotel to include pool bathing, snorkeling and lunch

Participating students will also receive a tour to the Kalinago Territory compliments KHATTS.

Paint for the competition was provided by Harris Paints Dominica Ltd.

    Seems like 2nd and 3rd prize winners will have more fun than 1st prize winners. Just saying…. these are primary school students :)

    It would be very interesting to find out why only a few selected schools were asked to paricipate in such event.

    This is all good but lets give credit to the members of S.O.U.L from Wesley who started painting bins for garbage collection during the Wesley Radical Jam For Peace. Driving through the Village of Wesley you will notice bins painted in pink. Great follow-up by Dominica Waste Management. But please give the codoos to S.O.U.L Crew.
