A student of the St. Mary’s Academy has received the highest number of grade ones at this year’s CSEC examination.
O’neil Le Blanc netted 11 grade ones.
He is closely followed by Convent High School student, Alex Maree Roberts, who received 10 grade ones and a grade two.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Chief Education Officer, Melina Fontaine, revealed that a total of 1,040 students wrote the exams in 2013 from secondary schools across the island and the students were examined in 31 different subject areas.
It was also recorded that 42 students obtained six grade ones, a better performance compared to 35 in 2012.
Amongst the top performers are Elisha Zareith Titre from the Pierre Charles Secondary School with 10 ones and one grade two, Jade Alexander of the Convent High School received 10 grade ones and Lizette Ellyn Eli of the Pierre Charles Secondary School obtained 9 grade ones and 2 grade twos. Daislyn Vidal of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School received 9 grade ones, and 1 grade two and Juanita Michelle Corbette of the Portsmouth Secondary School obtained nine grade ones.
This year Dominica recorded the highest number of grades 1 to 3, since recording began.
It is also the second highest year for students obtaining grades 1-3 in Mathematics and third highest for English A.
The overall success rate is 74.7 percent in the May/June 2013 CSEC Examinations which indicates a significant improvement in the performance of students.
In 2012, the island recorded a pass rate of 67.5 percent.
Congratulations, Ms. Corbette. You represented your school PSS and Portsmouth well. Hope that next year we will have more like you.
O’neil, Alex, Elisha, Jade, Lizette, Isaiah, Juanita congratulations on conquering these cruelling exams. I am truely happy you were able to persevere and make your families proud. In an effort to acknowledge your hard work I wish to reward you monetarily but I have none of your contacts. If anyone sees and reads this message please ask these individuals to contact me. My name is Nicholas and I operate a small engineering firm called Dominica Engineering services Ltd. With thanks.
If you seriously want to reward the mentioned students all you have to do is contact their schools who will get in touch with them.
pcss has superceded, it takes a smart person to figure this out. Apart from Elisha Titre and Lizette Elie so many ranked with seven, six , five and four ones cosidering they are coming from a society tabooed as ……….
CONGRATS TO ALL INVOLVED IN HELPING GRAND BAY GET A “FACE LIFT”
Congrats to all students who passed their subjects. However Titre and Elie deserve the highlight for showing that humble and poor households are able to excel. Thanks to you girls for being a shinning star in the south. Thanks for being the positive role models that our youths need. Am so proud of you guys. Excuse me Writer… why is Oneal CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY Anna Maree Roberts and not by Elisha Titre? As far as your reporting goes they have the same grades 10 0nes and 1 two….. so why the distinction? Is it a matter of class prejudice. Please fix that statement.
Schools are listed in order of codes. CHS Centre code is o70001 while PCSS IS 070013. This has to do with the establishment of schools. Take for example Castle Bruce, established after PCSS, It’s code is 070016 and so as the list unfold it starts with 01.
This has nothing to do with preference, let’s just celebrate the excellence of all.
Congrats to all the students and teachers you have done well. Tony Jess and O’Neil congrats May God continue to bless you guys.
and josie too xD
hmmm, sposh, gabby n terrese, have a high bar to jump
Us Dominicans need to honour our people when they do well. I don’t dispute Antigua and Guyana’s result, which is phenominal, however we are looking at the number of subjects done in Dominica. Who knows? maybe if we did Twenty subjects at one time in Da a student could have done well and receive 20 ones. So give our young people their flowers and praise our educators and students for a job well done. On another note, those who were not successful, don’t give up, its not over you still have another opportunity to do your subjects over and succeed. There are many people who ,including myself, did not do well in exams but with determination went on to do the exams over and has been employed permanently with govt for years now.
Congratulations to all deserving students and teachers!!!
Can someone tell me what is the difference between 10 ones and a two and ten ones and another two, or are we elevating some while pressing some.
please clear this thing whoever can!!!!!!!
the profile makes the difference. one student could have more A’s in their profile but still end up with the same overall grades
And then there are the rest………..the other 99%.
It is plenty less than 99%… Everyone cannot be featured here. This year was an extremely good one. Many, many, many other students did very well.
My other concern is where is DGS?
Dominica Grammar School.I saw SMA,PIERRE CHARLES, CONVENT,PORTSMOUTH secondary,etc, etc,
My Alma Mater, WAKE UP!
Saying a speciallllll congratulationsss to Lizette Elie!! Congrtulations girl you made us Proud!! Representing Tete Morne to the world!!!
oh……….Congrats to the other PCSS students!!!
congrats davi best wishes keep on setting goals for yourself we are proud of you girl
I see my old school PSS got a mention. Congrats Juanita Michelle! This shows that we have what it takes at PSS to excel.
HOW MANY STUDENTS OBTAINED 10 Ones and ! Two?
THIS IS POORLY WRITTEN!
CONGRATULATION TO Elisha Titre of PCSS. You also got 10 Ones and 1 Two!
Its Elisha ZANEITH Titre NOT Zareith and lizette Ellyn ELIE NOT Eli…….
Anyways congratz o’neil and to everyone else…. congratz to my PCSS peeps y’all made us proud big up your chest.. congratz to τн̲є other students who attained 6 ones and to everyone else a two is a good grade and so is a three you need to decide what u do with them… Do u let them disappoint you or do u use them as motivation to do better
He is closely followed by Alex Marie Roberts from CHS, with 10 Ones and 1 TWO, but see where Elisha Titre from P.C.S.S comes, although she also got 10 ONES and 1 TWO…..
When all you finish say I like trouble.
I have already failed the writer for confusing the reader to the bone.
Don’t forget there are profiles within each subject, so Alex Marie’s profile may have been higher… just a thought. I know that claiming bias is a much easier thing to do, but those of us who teach CSEC know that having the same grade does not mean the same performance.
There is the QUALITY of grade ones to consider; her ten grade ones could have been of better quality than the other students, maybe even to the point where someone with nine grade ones could have performed better. It has happened before.
Congratulations to all students who have done well at the examinations. Good role models for those who are still at school and entering secondary school this September. Teachers and parents who have worked hard with the students must also be congratulated. Let us all encourage the young people to continue to perform at a very high standard when they enter the halls of ‘higher education”. They must believe in themselves, stay away from distractors, spend more time on their studies so that they do not fall by the wayside. The sky’s the limit. Continue to shine. CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!!
But wait papa what happen to DGS? Take this as a wake up call. On another note well done to the other students and schools across the island.
de principal and dem teachers. Their constant bickering, late coming and absenteeism and blaming everybody else but themselves and still taking home a paycheck
The seconday eduction for all is killing the DGS. Too many students who are not ready for seconary education are sent to the DGS.
Correction: “education” and “secondary”
Congratulations to Shawnelle Regina Walsh of the Convent High School also received 8 ones. The Mayor and Councillors of the Roseau City Council are very proud of you. You have always proven to be well focused with school.
Best result in Antigua – 16 X 1’s.
Best result in Guyana – 18 X 1’s and 2 X 2’s.
Will Dominica ever reach such heights and are such heady heights worthy of being emulated?
Why is this necessary. Follow up on the students who achieved this over the years a good many of them are loco.
That’s not true at all. You people are too negative. Congrats to all the students who consistently work hard and achieve so much. Special congrats to Jade, always admired your humbleness.
I have NEVER understood why a student would want to do 16 subjects anyway. And what exactly are you saying, that our kids don’t deserve praise because they did not do 16 subjects? Shame on you! How many ones did you get?
No matter what, some folks will never be satisfied and you just proved it. Where are your grades?
Why did you feel the need to bring this in? Did you contribute in any way, shape, or form to these students’ successes? Have you considered the tremendous stress it puts on a student to achieve this feat? Why then try to rain on their parade? I don’t get it. What have you gained by trying to dim their light? Dimming someone’s light will not make yours shine any brighter.
Congratulations to O’Niel and all the others who excelled, even if your name was not mentioned. To all those who may not have been included in the tops, but you did your best, congratulations as well. To those who were not successful try again, and don’t give up. To the families, well wishers and educators who worked tirelessly to help them succeed take a bow. You are a part of the success as well. It would not have been possible without you.
Best comment and advice I have read thus far.
Magie, those children with 16 ones have ones in bio, hsb, inte sci, chem and physics. That’s 5 subjects already. congratulate those who do 11 separate subjects and succeed.Plus, a Guyanese man told me that those who achieve like that go to school from Sunday to Sunday. I don’t want to emulate someone like that.
Why would a student want to do 20 subjects? What does that prove?
not bad at all pss………….alot of room for improvement tho………..congratulations jaunita!!!!
It’s like the teachers did not do anything eh…
!!!!!!Let me congratulate all the students who did very well, and to let those who did not do so well, that everything is not lost. It’s a wake up call. TRY AGAIN!!!!!!GET SERIOUS!!!
To the teachers; I know many of you, for just a pittance go beyond your call of duty to HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! Hearts off to you all. JOB WELL DONE!
ONE WAY OF CLIMBING THE SOCIAL LADDER IS BY EDUCATING ONESELF…
WELL DONE!!!!!
That’s the best comment here. Most of the bloggers thought the students did it on their own, and that’s not so at all.
KEEP ON WORKING,THE COUNTRY NEEDS YOU ALL STUDENTS!
Did anyone hear a thing about the supposed piloted CPEA results?
I would Like to hear about the CPEA results too.
Congratulations O’Neil! Congratulations also to Alex-Maree and Jade!
SMA reigns supreme. I thank you and congratulate you for making my alma mater proud. Strive to emulate the same excellence during your tertiary campaign.
SMA has work to do. Look at how many SMA students are in the top 42 performers: only 3. Look at how many CHS students are in that same 42: too many to count. I am proud of MY alma mater.
SMA rules. Thanks young man for making my alma mater proud. Emulate the same excellence during your tertiary campaign.
I was wondering if any student got 8 grade 1 or 7 grade 1
Yes
Is Jade Alexander from Convent High or North East Comprehensive?????
Convent High
CHS
congratulations everyone! continue to strive for the best!
Congratulations to all is unquestionably merited!!! I am, non-the-less, SERIOUSLY concerned about the performance of students of the North East Comprehensive Secondary; the fact they were not mentioned means their performance was unsatisfactory? On another note, though praises are due to those who excelled, I am still concerned with the performance of the 998 (1040 – 42) who DID NOT obtain six grades one and above. Are they destined for the prisons as suggested recently by Dr. Morella Joseph of CARICOM? Have we paid sufficient attention to the fact that ONLY a SMALL percentage of the cohort can be considered to have done well?
not getting 6 1’s and above doesn’t mean you didn’t do well…someone could’ve gotten 5 1’s and 4 2’s and those are good grades
There would not be enough space to mention those who got grade 2’s and 3’s on this medium. And they are acceptable passes….
OK SIR/MADAM!
Well, I guess if you pay for them to put all the information on here, they will but since you only come here to read, they can edit only so much
Aye aye but Castle Bruce Secondary Had Saphie Bannis with 8 ones and 4 twos and Nyra George with 8 ones 2 twos and 2 threes, so that was not worth a mention. Anyway CBSS we know we have improved and is up we going with that new principal there.
OF COURSE…And teachers and students of all the schools would like their school and/or student name to feature.
OK LET’S CHECK THE PAPERS ON THURSDAY/FRIDAY TO SEE.
Congratulation cuz u made us proud
Congrats cuz you always the top
Congratulation cuz
congrats miss vidal.
OMG this is excellent news!! Congrats to all the students. Impressive!!!
i new u could do it
so proud of my cousin O’neil…always knew you do extremely well
I like the fact that the top students are spread out across the island. It just shows that all the schools have the potential..Great job to all. I am really proud of PCSS being one of the newest secondary schools on island.
Congrats to all those that scored all the ones and twos. I was happy with my 2 twos and 4 threes until I heard what you get. And I have to go college with you. O’neil I know you would get the 11 ones and Alex-Maree is not even a surprise. That girl very smart. All the others hats of to you. I think I will go BTC and do CXC again. I am afraid to meet with you in college. Go away and study. give us a little chance to see if we can get island scholarship. I stand no chance especially with those top four. I will do plumbing or mechanic
lol honesty is an admirable quality in anyone. You made me laugh.
LMAO!!! This comment made water comes out of my eyes! thanks for the laugh
sweetie, the marks dont matter. when u become a lawyer or doctor no one knows your grades and we all come back for the same jobs or rather no jobs. you have to path your own destiny. congratulations on exams and good luckin the future
hahahahaha
Just apply yourself and you will succeed. If you keep saying that you can’t compete with them you are only giving yourself a road block.
very funny hahaha, but you are honest and got good points.
Congratulations to the student and staff of PCSS. Job well done and continue the good work
Congratulations to all!! on another note, why didn’t the news read ” he is closely followed by Alex Roberts and Elisha Titre” – Don’t be biased people!! (they got the same results!)
Hats off!!
you want to tell people how they must write their articles now? you are so full of it.
You seem a tad upset by this obvious omission being pointed out. Can’t help wondering why.
@ Anonymous…You must learn to “SHUT THE HELL UP” when it is expedient to do so…
Elisha Titre did get 10 Ones and 1 Two…It could have been an omission, but I also took note of that.
I just think Alex’s profiles are slightly better than hers. You may get a grade one but may get A or B in the profiles of the subject.
In English for Example there is Understanding and Expression. so if one gets two A’s in profile versus and A and B, the score is higher.
So what? Does the article say that? It say 10 ones and a two. Ten ones and a two means ten ones and a two.
i agree because they got the same grades guud!!!
O’Niel you have always been topof ur class from grade one at SMP. Am not surprised, great job you deserve it and i kno u will excel beyound
Way to go SMA
but wait awhile …what is happening with Dominica Grammar School? They use to do so well…#worried
Student of the year only did 8 subjects. She got 7×1 and 1×2. Another got 6×1, 2×2 and 1×3. CHS got a few 8×1, but i guess DNO didn’t get all the info. I suggest DNO get the names and results for the top 10 students in ALL schools on the island.
Congats to a job well done. Keep on studying, apply yourself .Never give up and good results will result to all down the road.
Congrats O’neil ! Continuous Blessings to you
Congratulation to the students of P.C.S.S well done. To the parents and Teaches a big tap on the back.
Our young people are making strides. Thank God! Bravo to our students and their teachers who continue to make Dominica proud.
Great job……….Thumps UP
Take that education to an ivy league school and then get a great job abroad and the sky’s the limit. Once you have accomplished all of your dreams then you can come back Dominica and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
congratulation too all our hard working young people!!! I hope you get to share your adventures in education with other students and your achievement would not be a one day announcement.
Congrats Daislyn….you did great.
looks like the chineese in Dominica are not the typical Asian parent who torment there kids to perform academically…that’s good……being smart and studying hard is a good thing, but in the end do the top performers at school end up the most successful….don’t get Mr wrong it takes smarts to be a brain surgeon and a hedge found worker or whatever itis called, so to the 42 students got the 6 grade ones yeah…I think of you all in the same category
You are a stupid person.
so if you don’t know what it’s called, how do you know that it takes smarts?
DNO – It would be helpful if you suggest to those submitting articles to you, that acronyms used in these articles be clarified by the writers. When articles are being written, we should first take into consideration our audience. Articles which are published are not only read by people who live in Dominica but around the globe.A perfect example is “CSEC” as used in this article. What does this mean?. This has been my observation of a great number of articles posted on your forum.
Excellent Performance, O’neil and all the other students mentioned and those who could not have been mentioned. That’s the sort of news which should attract the most comments. Let’s stay positive on this one – no bashing, no politics. Let’s commend the youth who are doing well and also the teachers and schools who continue to try their best. Way to go DA Youth!!!
Congratulations O’neil. Smartness is in your genes!
wooww…we’re finally getting somewhere congratz!!! We can only go up from here =)
Well Lads!!! Keep it up through college and beyond!!
congratulations you all worked hard
Congratulations Oneil!!
Congratulations also to your parents and teachers at SMA- Smartest Men Alive!!
St. Mary’s Men Go Forth!!
God Bless….
We’ll try harder to learn and to excel PCSS God is our guide and our strength. Grand-bay again!
Please Correct name: O’Neil Le Blanc.
Congrats to Oneal Leblanc on attaining 11 ones in CXC. Congrats Jessie and Tony, you’re all are really role model parents who put interest in your kids well being. Anna was first, now is Oneal. God is Good all the time. Continue the good work Jessi and Tony.
So the results are in and by George they are impressive! Now give me a job please, please….
Admin, Miss Daniel specifically said that CXC determines the ‘Top” student after assessing the profiles of the students. The SMA student is not necessarily the top student until CXC tell us that he is.
Rather, it would be more appropriate to say, SMA students obtains 11 grade ones at CSEC, because that is what it is.
he is the top performer out of Dominica
Doltish: The profiles show clearly that O’Niel is the top student in Dominica. Wait for CXC to tell you that still!SMH
that good
DNO please correct, Jaunita Michelle Corbette is from Portsmouth secondary School not Pierre Charles. Let possi get its praise too!
