The 4-H Clubs of St Mary’s Academy, St Mary’s Primary and Convent High School participated in “Eat Fish Day” recently, an annual initiative aimed at encouraging both adults and children to make fish a regular part of their diet.
Teachers and parents of the students helped to prepare and distribute the foods for the activity.
Club Director, Bert Paul said fish is an extremely rich source of nutrients and vitamins.
According to him, “students have shown that diets with a balance intake of fish- that is two to three times a week help promote a healthy brain and heart functioning as well as long-term visual activity.”
Paul went on to say that in adults consumption of fish can drastically reduce the risks of heart attack, stroke or dementia in the elderly.
He said further that fats in fish are healthier than the saturated fats of meat and can, therefore, help maintain a healthier weight.
“Some studies have shown that eating fish promote better quality of sleep and reduces one’s likelihood of developing clinical depression,” he stated. “So eat more fish, it’s good for you.”
Paul advised, “Your brain will be better for it, you won’t go blind and if you’re lazy like me, you’ll be happy to know that it can be seasoned and cooked in a fifth of the time it takes to prepare some drumsticks.”
Additionally he noted, “It nothing else, a bit more fish and lots less meat can save that coke bottle figure you’ve been longing for after being quenchie shaped for so long.”
Seafood can be a huge part of the answer to feeding the world. Wild seafood requires minimal fresh water to produce, emits little carbon dioxide, doesn’t use up any arable land, and provides healthy, lean protein at a cost per pound lower than beef, chicken, lamb or pork.
All you reacting like it’s first time all you hear about “FISH.” The Belfast factory (DCP) dumped so much caustic and other untreated waste in the river flowing into the estuary; that our fish is not healthy as before. It may still be better to ingest than red meat.
They now making fish a hot topic because the Japanese (Japs) want a foothold in Dominica with their fish game. Wake up peoples!!!!

Excellent advice. It is said, fish is brain food. It could be eaten twice a week. As a Catholic Christian, most of the time I prefer eating fish on Wednesdays and Fridays. Catholics who know their Faith should know why. I will explain a bit,
Wednesday is the day Our Lord Jesus Christ commenced His Passion. Friday is the day He died. You know on Fridays in Lent and on Good Friday, we are to eat fish. There used to be a time that on ordinary Fridays (as we call it), we ate fish for the same reason. Today that holy habit appears not to be practiced by some.
Of course we could eat fish any day. Fresh fish is better. It could also be broiled and steamed. Curried fish with chive, garlic and onion is also delicious. Do not over-boil them.
Therefore, students and adults, enjoy eating fish as often as you can. For the students, now is the time to commence developing this healthy habit.

Garcon, I love fish but it has to be fresh. The cheapest I can buy is $8.00/lb, direct from the fisherman and hen I still have to clean it. I don’t buy from the fish market because I don’t know if it has been re-frozen and it is more expensive. With a lot of our people on the breadline, fish is expensive and that is why they buy a piece of inported smoked herring or a tin of cheap tuna flakes instead. I don’t buy that because is is like dog food. Dried cod has become a luxury when it used to be slasve food lang ago.We should also eat more vegetables but with our tomatoes at $8.00/lb and lettuce min. $5.00/head, who can afford that? I’m not buying chicken from the abbatoir because I hearing they freeze them and afterwards defrost them to put in the store as fresh local chicken. Is that true? I hope not.
