Tete Morne Primary School puts learning into action

Students with one of the recipients of a hamper

As part of the Health and Family Life Education (HFLE) program at the Tete Morne Primary School, the senior students of the school have seen the need to give back to their community in a special way.

After discussions among staff and students, it was decided that food hampers would be given to three senior citizens and one physically challenged man. In addition, it was also agreed that the students, under their teacher’s supervision, would take on a chore in or around the homes of the target persons when the hampers were being delivered.

Most of the items used in the hampers were contributed by the students of grades five and six. However, a few students from the other classes also made contributions.

This drive was in an effort to teach the students that young citizens can positively contribute to society in meaningful ways such as taking into consideration vulnerable people like the elderly or physically challenged who often times go unnoticed.

On Wednesday 14th December, at a special assembly,  the students were enlightened about what God Almighty feels about giving through Bible verses like Hebrews 13:16, Acts 20:35 and Proverbs 19:17. The hampers were delivered on that day.

We hope to take on other similar activities so as to help cultivate positive, compassionate and responsible citizens.

The Six Pillars of Character are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship. By carrying out this activity the students have demonstrated these character traits. Woe to those who think that something as good as this is bad. Who appointed you judge? Let Jehovah be the judge. He knows our motive.

I am so proud of the Tete Morne principal, staff and students. That’s truly community work and that teaches the students how to care for and respect the elders.
I am also from Tete Morne and I am elated at this occasion. That reminds me of the time I was in school. There was always a sense of caring and community togetherness. We always had a regard for, and respected the elderly. That’s what we need in Dominica and I believe that all schools should undertake such a program. When the young ones are involved in that way there is more love and concern flowing around instead of the crime and violence that I have been reading about. We all can work together and achieve that in Dominica.
To the principal, staff and Students I say, keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chooppps, this is one of the times that this website need to really monitor and and not publish such negative comments from narrow minded, or would you prefer small minded? individauls like you!!!!. I pray that if the time ever comes that you would need help, that HELP will be a available.
The adage “it takes a village” certainly holds true. I’m very impressed with the students and school for their initiative in bringing back a sense of community, especially at this time of the year. Hopefully, this will not be a one-time occurance. We ARE our brothers’ keeper!

Great work, Tete Morne Primary – worthy of acknowledgement and much commendation! Glad that the great work of Mrs. Hector is being built upon with fresh vigour and vitality by Mrs. Jude and the energetic staff who continue to deliver with their special brand of commitment and zeal. I am particularly impressed with the caption of the article – this is indeed extending our children’s education well beyond books and homework and the walls of academia. Looking forward to my next visit!

Very nice gesture and it looks like the students enjoyed doing it as well.

I think that project will assist with teaching kindness, love for the senior citizens and the priceless experience of what a giving heart is all about!

Oh how sweet, more schools in Dominica should undertake such venture. This is so fundamental in helping our youth appreciate the vulnerable and less fortunate in the community.

Now that’s positive stuff from the south.!!!!!
