“Sitting in the courts for hours, listening to trial after trial is what made me fall in love with the law,” journalist and now now aspiring criminal and human rights attorney, Christine St. Marie, said.
St. Marie, from the village of Scott’s Head, along with Jodie Luke, from Belles, are studying law at the Cave Hill campus at the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Barbados and were both elected recently to serve on the institution’s Law Society executive.
The Law Society is a welfare organization responsible for the administration of the affairs of law students at the Cave Hill campus.
Luke is the newly elected Law Society’s secretary for 2014/2015.
“Being a seasoned secretary, having worked at the Law Chambers of Dyer & Dyer for the last five years and holding an Associates Degree in Office Administration, I saw this post as the opportune time to utilize my skills and experiences to make a contribution to the Society and work with the society in the continued support it provides for students,” Luke stated.
At the poll she emerged victorious as secretary with a total of 248 out of 303 votes.
St. Marie was elected as the Publication Chairperson from a total of 233 votes.
She said given her background in journalism, she sees her new role as an excellent opportunity to share her knowledge, skills and experience.
“My aim is to provide a voice -a voice for action- that demands positive change, for students on campus,” St. Marie stated. “I would also like to provide an open forum for students who may have good writing skills or who are simply interested in writing, so that they could voice their concerns, their experiences and accomplishments here at the Cave Hill campus.”
The new executive officially took on its role during a ceremony held at the university’s Moot Court Room on Wednesday April 9.
Good Luck Christine & Jody.

Well well well ” this is how stupid some ppl can be eh! when our fellow students doing well it is not good enough for news ,but when one does a crime all hell break loose cause now we have news the young ppl this and the young ppl that, students stay focus do your thing .
lawyers in Dominica at present not making us proud, i hope this new set of law student will make the deference in the future.
And thats just a handful, i know of a Dominican Sitting on Three Executives at the University.

We got some real sadist among us….is news only supposed to be bad? Shouldn’t there be some “comic relief”, some “ease up” from the murders, the rapes, the corruption….if that’s all you wanna consumme, all yuou wanna wake up to every morning….it is really sad. Let the good news be an inspiration to your liv es and stop exuding all this negative energy….si e bon di bon…tonnez man!
Christine when you talk about corruption who you talking about? Tell me because trust me I going and blow you there if is Skerrit you talking about.
Jod’s am so proud of you and to the other young lady. Keep your heads up stay focus, come out shinning bright like a diamond and care less with negative Dominicans..still got lots of positive vibes around…one love girls
Shame on some ppl that eat their school fees .if those successful young ladies had gone to uwi and come back one by one with a belly and don’t even know where they got it from that would a laughting matter for those on the other radio station, but this is too good to make news ,thanks to you Pm and the govt. of dominica for the effort in helping our young ppl we’ll pay you back at the poles ,big up to you .
that good news my young ladies.am proud of you all
well DNO, things are bad. You mean that’s news?
stop being haters, thats good news,we are making strides!
u shud be happy they’re not on the streets busting gun shots at each other. or in a whore house selling their body for a $1. perhaps that would be a much better news for u
Sure..if you’d heard that they were convicted of some crime you would be the first to blast them right?? Envy comes in all shades of green but jeez..you’re the darkest shade yet. How about you go get yourself educated and make some news for yourself too…smh..typical Dominicans. If there was some news about a Dominican students killing someone you would say how they embarrassing Dominica. They putting our country’s name out there in a positive light and this is what y ou have to say??? magway sa
You dont need to post this but I know you have read it. You need to understand that when individual write gabbage why do you all post this things. These are individuals that are contributing towards their country, why would you post something of low value. This just show how uneducated you are in the estblishment. One day I will make myself known and you will be surprise, because I know each and everyone of you. Bunch of fools with no standards.
This is news why? How? Because? What so great about that? First class honors they got na?
Would reallywant to know what have you done for your country, not sure you graduated because you would have had some kind of love for education. Dam fool.
Bunch of ambitous young smart looking ladies making Dominica and the Caribbean proud. emm on the lighter side I see the guy to the right of the screen done holding on to one I would do the same myself – great picture.
I have been thinking .. it would be great to have a column just for “good news”. anything that is “GOOD NEWS , could go there. News does not always have to be BAD news.
Anything that happens to anyone in Dominica or anyone Dominican abroad, can be ” news”.
This made the news? Get serious DNO. I guess every student out of Dca who is part of some organization in his/her school should make the news too,,,,smh
shut up and be proud of your fellow Dominicans….u just mad u aint got nothing good to make news!! stups
True dat! We need to see more crimes committed by Dominicans. Stop discouraging us by showing us how others are doing well.
Come on DNO! Show us more of Dominicans in jail overseas so we can blame Government.
Redz I was saying the same thing! That is not anything to talk about.
@Redz, if DNO had reported they had stolen a candy at UWI you would not be making that comment! They would have been on blast! Typical Dominicans
yaaaahhh jodie!!!!!!!!!!
To infinity and beyond….congratulations to you both.
well done ladies, keep I up.
Cicero was right.
