US embassy makes donation to Roseau Public Library

The cheque being held by US embassy Political Officer Michael Carver and Librarian Davina Jones

The Roseau Public Library on Thursday received a donation from the United States Embassy which could significantly boost its operation.

A cheque of US$10,000 was presented to the library which according to librarian Davina Jones will go toward purchasing books, games and other equipment for the institution.

“Today we received a cheque from the US Embassy to support our American Corner which is a project run by the library in collaboration with them. This is the second year that we are receiving money from them which enables us to run programmes for children and adults,” Jones stated.

She added that the embassy allows training for staff of the library as part of the project.

The American Corner was launched in January 2011 and has received over US$43,000 in assistance from the US Embassy. Exhibitions, book readings, movie marathons, craft workshops and literature discussions are some of the activities offered by the American corner project.

Air conditioning? Did you say air conditioning? Are you insane? With what money?????????????????? I mean listen, no disrespect to you as I am not on DNO to disrespect anyone but when I read comments like yours I get so angry because what level of thinking is that? Either you do not live in DA or you do but you do not pay the bills.

DOMLEC bars ac for the library and to suggest squandering precious financial resources on air conditioning is just insane especially when the kids need internet, computers, books, encyclopdedias, photocopying machines, tables, comfortable chairs and the list goes on.

      sigh. God help Dominica.

I library does not simply need books; the entire aesthetics of the library needs an upgrade, starting with the reception area, the flooring. Don’t even mention the washroom

OK so donate some money! Offer your labour for free! Offer all your old books that are in good shape so that way less money is spent on books and some of the budget can be allocated to attending to some of the issues on your list.

Don’t just sit and grump about what the library needs.
