WDCF to hold spelling bee semi-finals on Wednesday

Paix Bouche St Johns RDPS

The West Dominica Children’s Federation (an affiliate of ChildFund Caribbean) will hold the Semi Finals of its Primary Schools Spelling Bee Competition on Wednesday 22nd June from 10:00 am at  Alliance Francaise De La Dominique.

The competition was opened to students of Grade 5 around the island.

The objectives of the Spelling Bee are:

*   To expand students vocabulary and encourage accurate word usage and pronunciation

*    To encourage students to explore and study the English language and its roots

*    To help students to learn to spell quickly, accurately and with comprehension

*    To promote students knowledge of proper word usage; encourage students to strive for excellence in spelling skills and other educational pursuits

*    To provide an opportunity for students to meet and compete with their peers in an atmosphere of fun and friendship

Nine schools are through to the Semi Finals – St. Mary’s Primary, Convent Preparatory, Roseau Primary, Soufriere Primary, St. Luke’s Primary, Massacre Primary, Roosevelt Douglas Primary, St. John’s Primary and Paix Bouche Primary Schools.

The top five (5) schools will go through the Finals which will be held on Wednesday 29th June.  The Dominica Social Security is the main sponsor of the Finals.

We believe that children who participate in programs and activities are more likely to succeed as adults.  We at the West Dominica Children’s Federation do hope to give our children this advantage in life.
