West Dominica Children Federation an Affiliate of ChildFund Caribbean focuses on working with children throughout their journey from birth to young adulthood, as well as with families, local organizations and communities to create the environment children need to thrive.
Our mission is
• To help deprived, excluded and vulnerable children living in poverty have the capacity to become young adults, parents and leaders who bring lasting and positive change to their communities.
• To promote societies whose individuals and institutions participate in valuing, protecting, and advancing the worth and the rights of children.
West Dominica Children’s Federation has provided thousands of children in our community with text books; uniforms school fees, free access to counseling, after school tutoring, mentoring educational and recreational programs. This access is made possible through the generous donations from community and business leaders like you.
This year, our goal is to implement educational programs in our schools which will allow participation and include every child. Studies have shown that children who participate in programs and activities are more likely to succeed as adults. We hope to give our children this advantage in life.
For the past three weeks, the Federation has engaged 36 schools on the island in the creating and designing Easter Cards and Posters.
The objectives of this programme includes:-
To recognize the creative and artistic skills student
To encourage student participation in ChildFund activities and events
To ensure that ChildFund sponsored children create a card or poster for their sponsor
Each participating school hosted an exhibition to display every child’s art work. The exhibit was centered on the Easter theme. The best three (3) from each class from every school which depicted Easter was chosen and will be awarded at their school’s general assemblies in May.
This was the first of such exhibits that the West Dominica Children Federation will undertake. The Federation intends to continue this as a program in partnership with others and ensure that secondary and primary schools island wide partake in such experiences.
Participating schools were:- Dominica Community High, Giraudel, Laudat, Morne Prosper, Trafalgar, Wotten Waven, Bagetelle, Bellevue Chopin, GrandBay, Petite Savanne, Pichelin, Tete Morne, Roosevelt Douglas, Savanne Paille, Cliffton, Dos Dane, Bense, Thibaud, Belles, Mahaut, Massacre, Warner, Dublanc, Isaiah Thomas, St. Jospeh, St. Johns, Vielle Case, Newtown, Roseau, Soufriere, and St. Luke Primary
