Minister of Youth Justina Charles is commending the efforts of the Youth Development Division for what she said is its continued efforts at training young people on the island.
Charles told the 38th graduation ceremony of the Youth Development Division this week that for any program to have survived for 29 years, means that the government has invested a substantial amount of financial resources into it.
According to Charles, government has also invested into several aspects of youth development in Dominica.
“Do not allow that investment to go to waste. The skills training program has enabled young men and women to acquire training that will enable them to be creative and self-employed,” she told members of the graduating class.
Charles said between 2008 and 2009, youth unemployment increased from seven to eight percent and recent reports indicate that youth unemployment within the region is high and dangerous to social stability.
The Youth Development Division Skills Training Program has been funded by the government since 1989 and a total of 6,423 young men and women have been trained so far.
It is good to see the yuoth of Dominica is well represented on a political level. What I would like to know is, is the youth minister are in contact with the youth division of any country of Afrika? As a Dominican born myself, it is some thing i would like to see happen, where student can take part in exchange visit to Afrika, to learn about the land our ancestors came from. I am in the process of moving to Ghana, I am willing to be that link if need be.i can be contacted on [email protected]
MAKE A PROGRAM FOR THE ADULTS ALSO BECAUSE VERY YOUNG KIDS BECOME PARENTS AT A PREMATURE AGE .THAT WOULD BE VERY GOOD IF THEY ARE TRAINED IN WHAT EVER FIELD THAT THEY WISH AT LIST THEY WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE THERE OWN RESPONSIBILITIES INSTEAD OF RELYING ON THEIR PARENTS,,,AGE SHOULD NOT MATTER INVITE THE PUBLIC.NONE THE LESS IT’S A GOOD IDEA FOR THE YOUNGER ONES.
