NCCU Cadence-lypso Competition finalists

Seven national calypsonians and the 2011 QTS winner are among the 20 who have been chosen to compete in the final of the 2012 NCCU Cadence-lypso Competition.

The chosen 20 signed their contracts with the NCCU on Friday night at a ceremony held at the Old Mill Cultural Centre to present them and the sponsors of the show to the public.

Fifteeen finalists were selected by a panel of judges while the other five were voted for by the public in a radio call-in programme simulcast on DBS and Kairi FM.

The judge’s choices include Derrick Peter, 2011 QTS winnner, Shamica Sorhaindo, Pierre Labasiere and the Sound Masters Band, Derrick St. Ville, Rhamadine Prince, Rubin John and John Mark. Also finding favour with the panel were Janet Azzouz, Royette Laurent, Jude Delawney, Golda Scotland-Andrew, Curtis “Explosion” J. Lloyd, Richard “Beno” Christmas, Steve “Triumph” Williams and Webster “Web” Marie.

The five voted for by the public are Arthur “Bassey” Pascal, Murphy “Sye” Jno. Jules, Carlyn Xavier, Lloyd Jno. Baptiste and Jamaal “Black Diamond” Lloyd.

Organizers of the competition, the NCCU, say they are very satisfied with the level of participation. Some fifty entries were submitted.

@ JACKIE CHAN: “instrumentalistic Talent”. good word…we know what U mean. With this level of musicianship and composition just think what it will be in 8 years with this new injection.

A Haitian Doctor just played me “Woy Rosita” on his cell phone this morning boasting of Cadence-Lypso. It’s bigger than we think!

I am impressed with the quality of the songs and quality of the sound behind the artists. Cadence needs this, great job for the future of de Cadence. Love it, keep it coming!

The competition can be so tight, that I think there should be prizes for the top 6 after the winner. Twenty participants are a lot of persons.

Carlyn, my dear niece, I am glad to read your name as part of “social entertainment” for our people of Dominica–and of course another piece of popularity for our village of Giraudel.

Whatever you do my girl, do it always, with the thought that you are blessed, and those blessings are part of the plan that God has designed for your Life. This thought will not drive you, and the work that you do astray–I know that!

Do your gifts of ability with Love, which provokes trust, humility, and obedience, knowing that your prosperity–in whatever its form– will be your reward of exaltation.

Blessings for you, and for all those with you, who are part of the work which most often brings the kind of relaxation, rest, and ease, to those who are searching for that relief.

there are 8 calypsonians in the mix, Royette Laurent has competed in calypso; singing Incompetence in 2011 and making it to the quarterfinal round…

    Admin: Thanks for the correction

Great! I hope this can be maintained as another annual event. Keep the cadence lypso alive. Good job NCCU, I’m looking forward to this.

Great great endeavour. I hope that we pickup the cadence music from where we dropped it. I would like to see us build on the short falls of the genre and push the envelope. It would be prudent to keep the musical texture and explore more focus on the english as oppose to strict creole. Also it is important to beef up the musical content with a display of instrumentalistic talent( i made up that word).
