All set for 14th World Creole Music Fest (photos uploaded)

The stage being set up for this weekend's WCMF.

The stage is set: artistes on island, media and other officials accredited and tickets sold as the organizers of the 14th World Creole Music Festival prepare to open the gates and draw the curtains tonight to open the event at Windsor Park Stadium.

Events director of the Dominica Festival Committee (DFC) Natalie Clarke-White says all is in order, with the exception of minor details, and she expects a smoothly executed event.

The DFC events director is working between office and venue conducting spot-checks on the ground and details behind the desk.

She says everything is on track and promises an event second to none.

The World Creole Music Festival will run tonight to Sunday night with headline performances from Luciano, Jah Cure and Steel Pulse.

Other artistes include Victor O, Les Aiglone, Kreyola, Midnight Groovers, Krosfyah, Les Etoiles du Cadance, Mas Compa, WCK, Creole Stars featuring Princess Lover, Orlane, Stefan Ravor, Costuleta and MKG Bank, T-Vice, Exile One, and Triple Kay.

@DOUBLE E: There’s no we answering anything. You have to answer. And each and every other person has to answer for his or herself.

If you are not into the WCF and such activities, why do you click on the story. Just stay away from it and don’t read. Just trying to be the typical miserable Dominican…cynical and negative about everything we do in our country. Using God to mask what is your personal issues.

@DOUBLE E: Prayer without action is a waste of time… MLK did not just sit and pray in his attempts to change the course of a nation and history.

@DOUBLE E: What are you on about. Prayer is exactly what has the world in the sorry state that it is in today. When are you guys going to wake up from the shackles and mental slavery that is religion and see there is no such thing as god.

Bearer of bad news, please do not spoil the fun of the Festival goers. :) Did you have to bring it up? You have already done so.
Dominica is prone to frequent rainfall. Once when I visited at carnival time, we attended the Calypso King competition. It did rain a bit, also on the carnival days.
Dominicans should be accustomed to this. Of course, everyone would prefer that it does not rain.
I reside in Canada. In winter it snows and could rain depending on the temperature. There could be a few snow storms and bad ones. In spring, it could snow and rain. In summer it rains; sometimes, rain and thunderstorms with lightning. I fear the lightning for obvious reasons. Some people have been struck by lightning and died. We are warned to stay indoors at such times. I will add, if we are not caught in it. Some areas have had tornadoes which damaged and destroyed homes. We live by the weather forecast.
Imagine planning a picnic or B-B-Q in spring, summer or autumn and it rains. No country is immune from weather-changing patterns. In Canada, it can be stated that the weather fluctuates and too much. One day it is beautiful with cloudless skies, another day it is cloudy, rainy, snowy and cold or cool, the latter even in summer.
In autumn (called the Fall – when the leaves turn colour – a beautiful sight, dry up and fall to the ground) it rains as well and could snow. This is where it is at right now. No snow yet but cool weather which is bearable for now. We are now wearing light coats and sweaters. No summer clothes and shoes. Tonight, fortunately, I had a pair of gloves in my coat pocket. I had to use them because it was cool enough. This is where we envy the beautiful, warm Dominican weather and wished that we were there. At least, when it rains in Dominica the sun comes out brightly and it is warm. We often speak about this type of weather in Dominica.
I keep a collapsible umbrella in my hand bag at all times and also a rain bonnet. Dominicans should do likewise.
We also have all-weather coats and raincoats. Granted, not all Canadians are prepared but I do not take chances with the weather.
Dominicans should always be prepared for rainfall.
All the same I hope it does not rain and that everyone will have an enjoyable, dry time – no rain I mean. :-)
I will be reading about the events and finale on DON. Thank God for DON.

Since when a Storm watch does stop a fete in Dominica?

Tonight going and be wet fete!!!

It have nuff standby gen sets in d stadium that well insulated and good distance away from patrons and ground staff of WCMF.

In Dominica we have state of d art circuit breakers so not much damage will happen to musical equipment and besides dem equipment it have there have plenty redundancies in d circuit design so d show will go on.

If storm give Dominica a licking say on Sunday , Skerrit money printing machine that by d cemetery on standby to print plenty US dollars and not even Uncle Sam can tell d difference!!!!!!!

If by 11:00 p.m. rain falling then I consider my season ticket as a donation to arts and culture in the Creole world!!! Amen

  23. Just converted "True Fanatikan"
    October 29, 2010

WHY OH WHY ISN’T FANATIK ON THIS YEARS FESTIVAL. Does Dominica, more specifically Colin Piper and his team, know what they have? After seeing them perform for the first time on Monday at Creole in the Park, I am convinced, this is a no brainer. Dominica needs to use Fanatik to promote & market Dominica just like what Barbados did with Krosfyah and other countries in the region. It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen so much raw talent and versatility in a band.
