All set for NCCU Cadence Lypso competition

Some of the Cadence finalists

Organisers of the NCCU Cadence Lypso competition say that everything is going well for Saturday’s show and they are hoping good weather will prevail.

Aletitia Butler-Moses one of the organisers stated that “everything is going well so far for the event”.

She said all 20 finalists are excited about the event and the chance to win $15,000.

Moses described the event as “bigger than we thought”. However, she assured DNO that all plans are in place and they are ready for the show.

Eight national calypsonians and the 2011 QTS winner are among the 20 finalists to compete at the event. Fifteen finalists were selected by a panel of judges while the other five were voted for by the public in a radio call-in simulcast on DBS and Kairi FM.

The judge’s choices are Derrick Peter, 2011 QTS winner, Shamica Sorhaindo, Pierre Labasiere and the Sound Masters Band, Derrick St. Ville, Rhamadine Prince, Rubin John and John Mark. Also finding favour with the panel were Janet Azzouz, Royette Laurent, Jude Delawney, Golda Scotland-Andrew, Curtis “Explosion” J. Lloyd, Richard “Beno” Christmas, Steve “Triumph” Williams and Webster “Web” Marie.

The five voted for by the public are Arthur “Bassey” Pascal, Murphy “Sye” Jno. Jules, Carlyn Xavier, Lloyd Jno. Baptiste and Jamaal “Black Diamond” Lloyd.

All the participants will receive a cash prize of $1,000 while the second runner up will receive $2,500. The first runner up will receive $5,000.

Carlyn, my dear niece, I am holding onto the hope for you. Just go on stage with humility and present who you are and what you can do, knowing that your ability is God’s gift to you. And so, just do it at your best my girl. I love you! This is your aunty Liz.
