Grammy award winner, Marlow Rosado, is on the cards for the 5th Jazz’ n Creole scheduled to take place at the picturesque Fort Shirley on June 8.
The announcement was made on Wednesday.
“I am pleased now to announce another Grammy award winner will be here for Jazz ‘n Creole main stage June 8th and that is none other than Marlow Rosado,” Director of Tourism, Colin Piper, said at a press conference at the Alliance Francaise de la Dominique.
Rosado is a multiple Grammy winner with works in salsa, rock, merengue, hip-hop, bachata and reggaeton.
He is also a producer, composer and pianist.
A native of Puerto Rico, and a “salsero at heart,” he has successfully written, played and produced hits in a variety of musical styles for some of the most renowned artistes in Latin music.
“So we are pleased to announce for the second time in Dominica, as those of you who were privileged to see Tito Puente Jr perform at the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), and saw the guy on the piano, that was none other than Marlow Rosado,” Piper stated. “He will be here leading his own group at Jazz …so we are pleased that we have gone from one Grammy winning singer in Angelique Kidjo and announced the second.”
Piper noted that Rosado’s appearance at Jazz ‘n Creole is evidence that efforts are being made to improve the event.
“That just goes to show the lengths to which we are trying to improve on the Jazz ‘n Creole event,” he stated. “And doing so by bringing quality and bonafide artists to the main stage for Dominicans to enjoy as well as our friends from the Caribbean.”
Meantime, communications giant Digicel announced that it is a platinum sponsor for the event.
The sponsorship is valued at EC$ 50,000 out of which EC$40,000 will be in cash and EC$10,000 will be donated in kind.
I love this event and was afraid that i’d miss it this vacation but i’m quite happy to find out that i’ll be there just in time. Looking forward to it again this year.
Take some of the money from the “noise festival” they call creole festival and put it into creole jazz; real music and get ride of all that noise. I wish nothing more than success for creole jazz, I’ll be there, Creole festival and carnival can fade away.
Good Job Mr. Piper,
You have to spend money to make money. If you want to take “Creole Jazz” to the next level you got to do what you got to do. I attended the event last year and was very impressed. I actually love this type of event more than Creole Festival and of course, I love Portsmouth. It is so much more low keyed, laid back. Just make sure you control the crime. Lots and Lots of security. As events like this grow, unfortunately the criminal minds grow also. Good Luck!
Nice move but all the money that u all are going to make will be to pay those grammy winners. Then, years from now, Piper will announce that they have never made a profit.
