Bands, various artistes and DJs of Caribbean descent worked together to put on a charity benefit concert in aid of the victims in Dominica in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika.
Winfred Julien along with his band Roots Vibrations, the Caribbean Cultural & Carnival Organization (CCCO) an IRS Non-profit 501(c) organization and Kola Ultra Lounge joined forces to host a major fundraising concert, for the island which was devastated by the storm in August.
The concert, titled “Detroit Dominica Rebuilding Fundraiser” was held at Kola Ultra Lounge, 32523 Northwestern Hwy, Farmington Michigan 48334, on Friday October 16th commencing at 7PM.
Julien, said the concert was one of several initiatives that will be undertaken.
These activities will help to raise urgently needed funds to assist the many victims of Tropical Storm Erika. Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, has announced the estimated damage from the storm to be approximately $1 billion dollars (EC).
“The need for assistance will continue well into the future, as the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica faces the highly unusual situation of relocating two entire villages, in addition to repairing infrastructure across the island,” Julien said.
Performers of Dominican and Caribbean heritage showcased their talents at this valued event. The entertainment line-up included very popular bands such as Roots Vibrations, Universal Xpression & Uprising Steel Band. Artists included Arubis, Bris, Mellowman, Aaron Parrot, Skarpion and Don Vince, in addition to DJs, VDJ Wada, WD, Roots Rock, Black Star and Riott.
All proceeds of the Detroit Dominica Rebuilding Fundraiser Concert will go directly to disaster relief in the Commonwealth of Dominica. There is an ongoing request for online donations which can be made via PayPal at CCCO’s website www.myccco.org.
