Phillip believes Bouyon has great potential

As part of events for this year’s Carnival celebrations the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) and the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) have organized, for the first time, a Bouyon Festival carded for Friday at the Windsor Park Stadium.

Bouyon music is an important part of Carnival and is very prevalent during the annual street jump up.

One of the main acts for the Festival is the Original Bouyon Pioneers.

Member of the group, Cornell Phillip, said Bouyon has a lot of potential “in the new style, in the original style.”

“It is about time that we really press on the genre as being something original from Dominica,” he stated.

He noted that he feels honored to be part of the festival.

He invited Bouyon fans to turn out in large numbers to support the festival.

“It’s time we represent Bouyon music in a big way because we have been combating the likes of Soca music, Reggae, Dancehall…and Bouyon is ours,” Phillip noted.

The band is expected to perform for 90 minutes.

Meantime; Chief Executive Officer of the DDA, Colin Piper said, “We notice that Bouyon is a great part of the Carnival, but yet wasn’t getting the place that we felt it deserved and so that is what we try to do. I think you are going to see a great show in that regard.”

He hopes that eventually the event will be presented as a competition.

“At some point in time you will be seeing the possibility of a Bouyon Road March because we really think that this is the music of the generation and so we want to make sure that it has its representation,” he stated.

Other performance which will form part of the line-up are Kross Vibes, WCK, Asa Bantan and Triple Kay International.

The event is expected to begin at 8:30 pm.

DNO please explain as to why was my previous post had been deleted because it had been there as of this morning,is it because that the truth offended someone i will state again that RAH and Nayee were not original members of the WCK band and were not original pioneers of BOUYOU music .
Can anyone recall when on that Sunday afternoon on the steps of the old Government House when WCK first played in public?
As stated before in 2013 and 2014 WCK was not on the original lineup of the WCMF and they wer only brought in afterwards at the last minuite.Tripple K came on board after WCK and since then have never been left out on the lineup for the WCMF and this is because their Manager Emile is also a member of the Dominica Festivals Commision everyone knows that .
Therefore whenever i listen to the radio and i hear the original pioneers of Bouyon and KEITH’S name is not included i get offended because when Keith used to go to Ma Phillip’S home on bath road the other socalled pioneers…

“Bouyon’s not getting the pace it deserves.” Don’t the bouyon bands play at the end of J’ouvert, then at the end of Carnival Monday, then at the end of Carnival Tuesday ?
And how much of our tourism budget is going into yet another festival ? Explain to us how many visitors this is going to attract at this late junction ? Do you honestly have nothing better to spend the tourism budget on than this ?

II am very disappointed and it’s amazing that the DFC and the organizers of this event doesn’t know who the pioneers of the Bouyon music is .
Rah and Nayee was never part of the original WCK and it’s a shame that Keith’s name has not been mentioned as one of the the original members but it’s no surprise cause one of the former Managers have tried on many occasions to distabilize the group and moved over to KKK.
But Keith has held on steadfast .
I say to you Keith hold on and one day you will be recognized for your efforts in keeping the Bouyon music alive. It is also obvious why WCK two years in a row were not part of the WCMFand had been brought in only as replacement because one group could not be there and it’s only because the Manager of TrippleKkk is a member of the Festivals Committee but one day this will come to an end.
I wish you the present WCK all the best during this years Festival and Carnival Season.

Why isn’t the first serenade band in the line up. That is the band that gets me on the road for carnival. I applaud their efforts. These are musicians, and they brought us bouyon, WCK just named the music. Its only fair that they should be classified as pioneers as well. You see why we aint making much progress in this country. We do everything subjectively, we need to be objective and serve in the countrys best interest. Show case all our bouyon bands, not a selected few. It is obvious that over the years, although I also like original WCK, but it has been obvious that decisions are always Bias in their favour. Big up to the FIRST SERENADE, I wont be at bouyon fest, cause it wont be great without you guys however see you possie on Monday and Tuesday. I ready ready ready….

In order for the Bouyon music to begin to connect to the world, the music has to have more chord progressions and arrangement it it. The in it now state only is just program for jump up time.

honestly i dont want to hear cornell because when he had his chance to make out music into something he left wck and went to do all kinda thing and now your back to square one, my brother you knew what we had and you were the one running chasing all kind of other genres. you had The Big Bad WCK and u left it for Rupee and Then Fanatik come on, but anyways am happy now that you realized you stick to what is yours and leave others with theres. WCK to the world. Respect Keith the True Solider who Stood for our Music……..

My sentiments exactly. I made that same comment to someone recently, they left the band for “GREENER” pastures after doing all their undercutting of the profits. It didn’t work and now with their friends in higher places they want to cripple the band by coming with all sorts of names and collaborations. That’s why things in D/ca will never work, everyone want to claim fame instead of working together for a common goal.

OH Really DFC, the first ever Bouyon Festival in Dominica. For the past two years Bouyon One Love Music Festival a.k.a on the streets’ Bouyon Fest’ was held at the Sisserou Hotel on Carnival Saturday right after the National Queen Show on the same day your event is posted for 2K15. STEALING PEOPLE’S PRODUCT and calling it YOURS or the FIRST is just NOT RIGHT. I think your staff can be much more proactive or something is wrong!!!! You may contact various radio stations or telecoms station for the ads from the past years 2K14 and 2K15.

Where is the First Serenade Band? C’mon Mr Piper.. WCK and Original Bouyon Pioneers to me the are same. Show some respect to a band that produce great music over the years. To me, The First Serenade Band is the real Pioneers of Bouyon but WCK just simply name the music Bouyon.

While I agree that First Serenade should be on the programme, I disagree with you when you say that WXK AND the Original Pioneers are the same. They both play different styles.
