Leading telecommunications provider LIME has once again demonstrated its commitment to the advancement of Dominica’s young people. The company on Wednesday announced three bold initiatives aimed at benefitting various sectors of the youth population.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between LIME and the National Youth Council of Dominica to forge a partnership between the two parties for the advancement of the NYCD and the youth of the country. “LIME is committed to supporting the young people of Dominica and we believe that the establishment of this relationship with the Umbrella organisation for young people is an effective way to support a wider cross section of this group “said LIME’s General Manager Jeffrey Baptiste.
Through the MOU, LIME is committing to assist the NYCD with the execution of its programmes and projects, fund raising efforts, its telephone and internet needs, and helping creating greater awareness for the NYCD and its programs. For the President of the NYCD, this is a historic moment for the Council. “It is not often that a corporate giant makes such leaps and bounds to invest in a nation’s people, particularly its youth, and I wish to applaud them for this. LIME has indeed recognized the role that the youth plays in their own corporate viability.
Shahida Cruickshank, Jacqueline Breezie, Dilon Lawrence, Phillip Rolle and Sade Samuel were announced as the students from the Dominica State College (DSC) chosen to participate in a Sales Intern Program at LIME over the summer. The students who commenced their first real life work experience from June 1 will be expected to engage in Sales exposure activities in various areas at the company.
President of the DSC Dr Donald Peters thanked LIME for providing this life altering opportunity for the students of the Dominica State College and urged them to take full advantage of this rare chance to gain valuable work experience.
The third announcement focused on a young man from the southern community of Grand Bay who is taking the entertainment industry in Dominica by storm. Asa ‘Asa Edwards’ Bantan can be described as the most popular artiste on the island at this time. His catchy lyrics and real life story lines in his music attracts a listening ear from both the young and old alike. LIME’s GM says that the other main factor considered for signing up Asa Bantan was his interest in undertaking a school tour in the new school year with the message of staying in school and opposing violence.
Youth Minister Justina Charles commended LIME for all three initiatives which she noted will contribute to the development of the nation’s youth. With specific reference to the MOU signed with the NYCD the Minister noted “This initiative will provide greater social integration, economic development and prosperity. It will surely boost their self-esteem contribute to productivity and motivate our young people to continue to empower themselves”.
LIME currently supports other initiatives on island in support of young people including the recent adoption of the Roseau Primary School, the Q-95 Talent search and through its FREE internet for Schools Program.
HAITIAN
seeing that lime is up for this sponsoring young persons, individual and groups. because to my knowledge they also have kkk under thier wings.. there is this young man from the south whom i witnessed played during fete Isidore. Understood that Astaphans is their primary sponsor as of may fest. Why don’t LIME see how they can incoperate some of their finances on this band. I think is Extasy or digital vibes. the one that sings the nice zouk, compa songs. those young adults have talent and if we nurture this talent then i am pretty sure that dominica can make a bigger and better name for themselves in the music industry…

yh I agree…why not get Ferdina or somebody else from LIME or the NYCD to witness? Why Ms.Dominica? I’m not bashing I justthink it’s a cheap way to fit her in “something” because we allknow after they win their crowns>>>they do nothing………#just saying……..
The National Youth Council of Dominica need not make the contents of the MOU public. By now Dominicans are well aware that LIME has been very much involved in supporting a number of initiatives on the island involving young people in the areas of sports, culture and education. The details of the MOU, if we were to be so informed, would clearly indicate the continued commitment of LIME and other companies like Digicel towards the development of the young people of Dominica. The only sad spin to this story is the fact that we do not have a dynamic and efficient Minister for Youth Affairs.
I’m really sorry to do this, but how is it that LIME signs an MOU and we know all about it but we have no idea what the MOU is between or country and China?
This is really disturbing.
Congrats and all the best Asa!
number one televommunication in da. i love my lime,!
LIME FOR LIVING EVERYDAY !!!
Way to go Feno! Youth positiveness. Possie again.
whats the significance of miss dom being there..nothing to do with her
This is an official function. Carnival queens normally do these kind of things,is like the President of Dominica cutting the ribbon at a national event. Furthermore, she is a youth, she has achieved and her event was sponsored by LIME. Oh how quickly we forget…or do we really?
