CHOEB releases new ‘sophisticated’ music video

Fresh off their nomination for best Caribbean RnB/Hip Hop Song for the International Soca Awards for their last video, Portsmouth-based hip-hop group CHOEB is looking to break barriers again with a new music video.

Their new video is for the single named ‘Couple of Shots’ from their last studio album C-IV.

According to one of the group’s leaders Bertist ‘B.E.R.T.’ Jeffers, the group made an intentional effort to raise the bar with the video.

‘Based on the current local music video scene we realized that people are paying more attention to local videos now than they used to. But people are also very critical and have high expectations. So we really put a lot of effort into making a video that is sophisticated and is classy and professional but still a lot of fun,’ Jeffers stated.

The concept of the video, shot at various locations in Picard Portsmouth, is of an ultra-classy pool party featuring a modeling show and live music entertainment by CHOEB.

Several entities at the forefront of the effort to revolutionize Dominica’s entertainment industry were involved in the production of the video. This includes video production companies Ambo Visuals and Gremo photo, models from Blush Inc and as well as models from Dominica’s Next Super Model show. Several stylists and clothing stores also contributed to the video.

The video can be seen on the link below:

What does it profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul? What does it profit a woman to lose her dignity and gain the applaud of men? What does it profit a nation to gain the recognition of other countries while it loses its youth?…NOTHING! This video is an abomination in the sight of The Most High!

the video was ok there was nothing wrong with the singing or their clothing, however they could have use a little bit less alcohol, the taking shots kind of seems like we promoting alcoholism which is not good. But other than dat good job to everyone involved.

I don’t have to view the video to wish these young ones goodluck.i just want to encourage them to keep doing what they like to do.
They may just brake through with one good hit,it takes time, but it will happen with encouragement.
just wish them well, and hope they will improve on their lyrics, but don’t cry them down.
They are self employing themselves,so that should be a plus.in a hard to find job country.

Jobs are hard to find all over the world my dear I have news for you. Even over here in the UK people with 1st, 2nd and even 3rd degrees are struggling to find employment.

Its not just in DA as over here attending an interview may mean competing with another few hundred applicants at times.

Sometimes Dominicans or even some overseas have a tendency to suggest that through this very difficult economically challenged world we all live in, that DA is someone the only place with these issues. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Congrats to the CHOEB crew. They are really making a big effort on a limited budget to promote and showcase dominica. They sing music which they are comfortable with, so don’t hit them on that. At least they are making a big effort where the other local bands are so laid back.

If you want to be critical please call them privately and discuss it with them, but don’t try to break them down, since they only mean well for everybody.

Boi look a set of hypocrite Dominicans! First of all, let me state that I’m in my middle 40s, so I have nothing vested against/for this music video.

But when Shadowflow made his “calypso” about “I just come for de rum and de party”…I never heard any of you complaining about it.

So why is this video getting all that blows?

You could not have put it any better! What people must realise that a video is just a mini movie, where all the performers are just ACTING a role. Is not that, which will make people drink their rum.

All they talk about are haters when they
have nothing to hate on. Those girls are
trying to imitate Nicki Minaj who sounds
terrible herself. This s*** aint going
anywhere. And you all can say I’m hating
it’s cool, I know that’s the only word in
    your vocabulary.

Love This Video… Ima Put It Up Top For CHOEB Doing A Great Job Once Again.

It’s Not Easy For Dominican Artists, For Even The Ones Who’re Already Somewhere And The Ones Who Are Just Getting Out There. Loads Of Competition. That’s Where We Come In As Dominicans. Lets SUPPORT Out Own.. Because If And When They Make It We All Make It.. It’s Our Flag They Gonna Raise On “MTV” Or Even “BET”

With That Said, I just Didn’t Like That Idea Of The Ladies Sitting At The Bar Doing Shots Back To Back… But Hey Daz Just Me.

All In All, A Nice Vid!!

Why doe you wanna do God’s work of Judgeing the guy? Even saying who he is and where came from in this negative context? Do YOU know everything?…even his heart?.. motivation? Uncharitable thing to do for a Chrisitan.
If you wanna say something positive to the group, go right ahead and give some good advice.

To everyone speaking about American Influence. Why dont you ask the top ‘dominican’ music artist why they dont make videos for their fans? after all they are the ones really making money, but they dont choose to indulge their fans visually so why do people have problems with this group indulging their fans. When the truth is the kompa and bouyon and cadence groups dont make videos for their fans

    July 5, 2013

It amazes me that the very people who critisize are the ones who are doing nothing with their life.
The video was amazing. The concept was original and the qality remarkable. Dominicans and their *crabs in a barrel mentality* is what hinders young people from moving forward and then they still insult young people later for doing nothing. The irony of it all .

    Loved the video regardless

    July 5, 2013

I think you Dominicans are going to be critical no matter the quality or the message passed in the songs.

The video production was great, the fact that there was a story to the video was even better, ladies and gentlemen were well dressed and groomed. A for presentation. The Americans got it somewhere, so what? we take a few style tips from them……..it happens everyday CHOEB isn’t the only one.
Can they wear CREOLE outfits all year round? Ridiculous… think before you all speak.

And for heaven’s sake even though a video was not made displaying the drinking habits of human beings we do it regardless. Let the people be themselves and stop pointing out the negativity.Couple of shots anyone?

Is that what its all about, a set of young people drinking alcohol. Is that what you all want your younger siblings to follow. You all have some good voices and is sure gifted, use it to glorify God and use it to sing songs that will leave a positive message to those who listens to it.

Good voices and is gifted but not a good message.

Yeah, But if we had listened to Kimara Hirtault and Delia Cuffy Weekes on DBS Straight Talk on Tuesday night gone we would frown on these music videos that these young people are putting out. There is talent but it must be done properly without using women as sexual objects. I wish someone would take this up as a personal project –teaching our young people how to use their talent to create decent videos. Too bad I am out of state. We also need to understand the link between certain kinds of music and the perpetuation of crime and violence.

I completely agree. The group shows maturity. I only wish the video had more of a Caribbean flare to it. Too many times, we adopt the music of rap and hip/hop but forget that as Caribbean people we have to represent in our lyrics, style, dress and environment. I group needs to find its niche as a CARIBBEAN hip/hop group and use it.
