CHOEB releases new summer video

A shot from the video

The summer is hot and local group CHOEB has turned the heat up another notch with the release of a music video for their song ‘Party.’

CHOEB has been making waves locally since the release of the hit single and video ‘Take My Hand’ and another successful video ‘Magic Touch.’

For their summer single, director and video editor Chad Ambo got back  on board for the video shoot.

The video was done on location at Picard Beach Cottages, Portsmouth Beach Hotel’s Restaurant and on Coconut Beach in Portsmouth.

‘Party’ is about young people having clean fun on the beach, as their way of making use of their free time and escaping from the summer heat.

The CHOEB Team would like to thank all the sponsors, big and small, who helped make the video possible.

The video can be viewed in full HD below:

To most of the people pointing out their accents…make sure yall all support the local music like bouyon, soca and zouk for example. Where the accent is to your liking. Quit looking for a problem with everything. Just support.

  5. July 22, 2012

To begin with…SLOW DOWN PLEASE! its all sooo complicated! and the beat isnot dance-able for a party. Also,i didnt even get to see the girls actually sing cuz that was moving so fast. I wasnt really feelin da vibe and there were so many unnecessary clips. that bertist dude needs to take advice from other people cuz i personally hav been listenin to him rap and its a waste of my time. He has NO FLOW and he has NOLYRICS… his verse sounded worse than a freestyle, likewat is he saying?? these girls hava wonderful future ahead of them i can see dem goin far if they wrk alone. they can take my advice or call me a ‘HATER’ I really dont give a rats butt, its up to them. bye

Nice try , but why the yank. You all are not Americans. One think that make Jamaicans hit it so well in the public is thier originality and the stick to thier roots. Overall it was not bad. The girls have great voices!!

definetly room for improvement…i agree drop the talking part (yanking) and go straight into the music…keep trying guys sky is the limit…good luck

Honestly I think that there is a stupidity epidemic growing among Dominicans….and its beginning with the word “HATER”

NEWSFLASH: Just because someone does not like what you have done..does not mean that they are a HATER…and that they are HATING on you ..nor does it mean they do not want you to succeed.

Its called CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. There is no way one produces a product and everyone would like it…I personally think the video sucked..but I don’t even know who these people are to be hating..

Learn to improve your game and listen to what people did not like about your video..and say “oh yeh..maybe they are right..or nahhhh i really liked this I’m not going to change it”…instead of thinking you are perfect and everyone who did not like A PART of it is simply “hating.”

    #thatisall…PEACE!

Chad Astaphan’s video was wayyyyyy better than this…But because he not from COUNTRY and he is an Astaphan there were so many negative comments…saying autotune this and that..the chorus had so much autotune it sounded like a cartoon!

Secondly this video had no structure and no storyline..just a bunch of young people on a beach partying…Clip after clip I was beginning to get a headache..

Mind you I don’t even know Chad Astaphan or this young group here…I was just shocked at how much negative comments he got…oh he gay oh he this and that..when his video was far superior to this..

As DOMINICANS it shouldnt matter whether you from COUNTRY or from TOWN…BE REAL

Yes yes!..I am simply hating on a bunch of college aged students rapping lyrics that a 1st former could write…IN a fakeeee American accent nonetheless…. OMG! I am such a hater!!

“Aye my padna”….Do Dominica a favour and kindly refer to the comment above from “WhoBaptizedHater??”

And SINCE I”M SUCH A HATER… SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF>>>>> Do I smell a Chad Astaphan Hater??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA DING DING DING!! *scratches underarm….scratches toe!” I DO!..You don’t even know why you didn’t like the Astaphan’s song..And you calling me a hater when I have legitimate reasons? ..Kindly go to the toilet!

This dark disgusting war between Country and Town is! my dear non-friend! the biggest evil on this lovely green island!

One day I will come back to Dominica, and go up country, and pet a man cow and get myself harshayed by you country folks to prove my point!

hmmm in life everyting someone do dnt maatter how hard thy try their are sum ppl who will always look for the negative rather thn praise thm on the positive… choeb as a young group i find you all are doing great at least allu spare time is occupied by singing rather thn drugs i just want to big u guys up n as time flys i wish u all get better just suck in the critisizem and move foward…. YEH CHOEB!!!!!

  12. ummmm
    July 20, 2012

Not bad at all. I am proud that our young people are doing something constructive rather than being involved in drugs an so on. Only one problem though: Besides scenes switching a little too frequently, just saying that ya’ll should never forget ya’ll roots.. In other words, don’t forget where ya’ll come from and don’t imitate other cultures. I didn’t like the fake accent. I mean be real. The music genre is already rap/pop. The least ya’ll could do is speak normal in ya’ll DA accent. Trust me, people will understand ya’ll just need to articulate the words properly. Overall, good video inspite of…

PS: EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO SHARE THEIR OPINION, HENCE, EVERYONE’S OPINION SHOULD BE RESPECTED.

nice vibes but too much is happening in d video…as one clip cum a next clip n is like clip after clip not enuff time to focus on one scene and say waw its like scene after scene after scene….it would hve been a nicer video if it had a stage with all ur instruments n you all on d stage singing d song and a crowd rocking to the music on d beach and drinking and being d life of d party…n den sum views of d sea n stuff…jus my opinion..i’ve been following all u songs a long time now n i like you all music alot n you all hve great talent….d next step you all hve to take is writing music that will touch hearts like songs about poverty, showing luv to kids especially the disabaled and teaching kids to stay in skool, and about fallin n picking urself up and songs about luv for ur country n so on hope u get me n take it into consideration….

ay fellas doh do accent again eh…dat sounding so fake it had me laffin in embarrassment. the best thing to do if you want to reach out to the international audience is just speak proper english in your own unique dominican accent.

anyway, I like all you other tracks but not that one na (maybe it will grow on me)….but the video nice. I’m a new fan, first time I hearing of all u, compliments to DNO, so I did some youtube research haha.

Keep it up, learn from the constructive criticism and keep improving urselves. I love to see our talented dominicans in the spotlight. big up!

I don’t see anything with them kids yanking.
Yank or not to yank … it’s up to them.

Some Dominicans it seems are really some dumbs in a can! ***Especially those that complaining about culture and the yanking.

If it were a bunch of white kids in Dominica yanking wouldn’t you listen the music? Wouldn’t you still understand them. Rihanna has a banjan accent when she is Barbados, but when she sings she has an American accent? Do you still listen to her music? Duh Yes, do you understand her? Most definitely, give them kids a break.

I know people who work at Ross and Clear Habour some of them yank…So what?

Now listen to how foolish this sounds… some of ya’ll have a problem with them saying patty the word is party. NOT DA you all from. Mostly all of us say Patty.

CHOEB you all can’t please everyone next time make a video called “Yank or Not to Yank”

It is so weird how Dominicans can never give each other their props. In the words of the infamous pastor BJ zor too sot supposing that video reach on the international market or audience how the hell they going to understand our broken language? imagine them saying “aye where u be?, i by the garage, i coming and met u eh” in a kinda raw dominican accent. Seriously I swear Dominicans doesnt think logically sometimes.

great job. However, you definitely want to remember to be you. You want to stand out not blend in (especially on the international stage). You want to bring something unique to the game. I have no doubt you all will continue to grow as artists. Looking forward to the next big track and video. CHAD AMBO!!!!! AWESOME WORK!!!! Dont stop. Keep on growing and producing bigger and better films. The next one better top this :)

Just to clarify. I absolutely love CHOEB. I think that they are one of the most innovative, talented and exciting groups to ever cone out of Dominica. The talent of the female lead singer is out of this world and Bert has the look of a real celebrity. My concern is that they are downplaying all of that talent by attempting to cater to an American audience that is nonexistent. The video just made me want to go home. The vocals and intro leave something to be desired. This is no knock on CHOEB. I have “Take my hand” on repeat at nights when I am studying. Keep it simple CHOEB and please keep it Dominican. You don’t need to adopt anything in order to convince people of your talent. You guys are great.

Is there something wrong with little american accent. You people are not serious?! speak their Dominican accent and say Party, but it sounds like PATTY all you still vex. There’s no problem with the song,THEY ARE NOT BORING, DON’T JUDGE CUZ I BET Y’ALL DON’T KNOW THEM,cuz they fun as hell!!Some off allu self,Caylpso, where it going??Nowhere!! so dont come here talking bout that shyt,i mean our culture but i bet they take part in other cultural things!Congrats CHOEB,you cant please everyone, people will always find the negative rather than take in the positive, but they can all suck it!!

The video is really good love how they brought it all together….the accents noooo keep it reall people a lot of y’all talking about Rihanna her first cd she stuck to the reggae side and had her bajan accent to kill…. Nt that she has made it she has evolved…. My advice to this amazing aspiring group is to keep it natural no record label looking for the next Kanye or nikki Minaj with all that auto tune… They want to see something unique in your ability.. Keep up the good work like the direction the group is going but main thing is to b u…..the accents auto tune… And maybe a lil vocal training for the girls and this group could b huge…..nuff respect

GOOD JOB GUYS! Keep doing what you doing.

      July 19, 2012

the accent is noticeable when she speaks, and americans love the british accents btw…and what people talking about here is de horrible fake accent dem boys have when they were speaking on the phone in the intro of the video.

I don’t mind the use of proper internationally recognized english…cuz u kno dominikans engleesh is one by itself, but atleast they could have done it in their own accents.

I myself know how to switch it up when de situation calls for it but you won’t hear me with no fake yankee accent

Its all showbiz folks. These guys mean well. If you want to break into the international market you have to do what it takes, and even if that means “yanking” a bit. after they have penetrated the big market they can chose to be more flexible. In the meanwhile give them encouragement and only point to areas where they may be uncompetitive so they can improve.

I am very proud of CHOEB and Chad Ambo by extension. There are more established bands in Dominica who are not making use of innovation and marketing thrust like CHOEB. So big up guys keep on doing your ting. and doh hesitate to post your videos to MTV,BET etc, is only by trying we make progress.

    • CAH-C-BRUCE
      July 19, 2012

Rihanna sold out. Can’t even tell she is Bajan. She is also a pop artist at current, not a reggae/dancehall artist.

In addition, Rihanna is also marketed almost exclusively to a North American and European market, making her fraudulent accent an asset to album sales. CHOEB must first aim to conquer the local markets before looking external. Not to mention that the accents sound completely off.

    • ann
      July 19, 2012

      Rhianna Alone?

Melanie Amaro was the best. She was pure American in that X-factor Audition….when i hear her Tola accent when she visited Tortola months ago, i alomost drop dead!!! It was like she was different person all together!!

She could not have gone infront of Simon and LA Reid with that old Tola broken english kind of talk, but when she in America she talking American, when she in Tortola she talks tolan.

Ann you are right. The thing with Melanie and rihanna is that they immersed themselves in the culture to have that twang down to a science. It sounds unnatural in the CHOEB video. just an observation.

  48. July 19, 2012

some dominicans are jus so stupid……….if u are so perfect at music and promoting our cultural music y dnt u go around n educate the youth about our culture….they turn to these type of music cuz wen dey do local no one supports them….in the caribbean there r many young rap groups…..KEEP UP THE GOOD WROK CHOEB…LET THE HATERZ HATE………..the video was very nice and it had that summer feeling trust me…. :-D

That’s the only part of the video that turned me off. instead of talking like a Dominican you yanking. the whole thing about is i have heard them speaking before and they definitely didn’t have the accent. on a next note, nice track, nice video. shout to the the director…real talent.

Hate the fact that they are impersonating ridiculous African American accents. Keep it Dominican CHOEB. No need for the fake accents.

      July 19, 2012

U’re a critic? Was that your only observation about the video? Ok so cool you didn’t approve of the yanking as is your right. No other feedback than to make a negative comment on the production because of how the guys spoke in the INTRO?

The women in the intro btw are Americans studying at Ross University in Portsmouth

The comment about them being students was in case anyone thought that the women were impersonating American accents….A little analytical skills and you would have made the link, but u’re clearly not as bright as you would like to think…
