A number of patrons gathered at the Botanical Gardens on Monday as the twelve annual Creole in the Park (CITP) kicked off.
There were performances by Signal Band, First Serenade Band, Colton T, Cadence Experience featuring Ophelia, Joy Stoute, King Dice, Freddie & Friends and Midnight Groovers.
Reigning Calypso King, Denison “Dice” Joseph told Dominica News Online (DNO) so far this year’s Independence season has been a good one.
“So far this year the season is good, the people have been peaceful and I think that understanding is in the air that most people have,” he said.
King Dice encouraged young musicians to work hard and to, “Put God first and everything comes after.”
Meantime, French dance group K-ristik consisting of Meina Andre and her two young children got the opportunity to perform at the event for the first time.
According to Andre, it was a great opportunity to perform at this year’s CITP.
“We are enjoying our stay in Dominica,” she said. “It is our first time performing at the Creole in the Park and it has been a joy for us.”
Andre said she plans on visiting Dominica again.
One of Dominica’s popular musicians, Colton T who also performed at Monday’s event said he was pleased with the response of the crowd.
“I have a large following amongst the youth and was satisfied with their response,” he stated.
He encourages young people to practice safe sex.
“We know it is festival time and I know a lot of young people are engaged in sexual activities. Practice safe sex. That is what I have to say to the young people,” he said.
He called on young musicians to work hard and to believe in themselves.
Val “Young Bull” Cuffy and Alex Bruno were MCs at the event.
wat sup with that lady face
I want to thank you for the opportunity to post my comment. some people forget where they come from and when given an opportunity they try to personalize it.
I am referring to the performance by Rohan Williams Rohie.
Rohie doesn’t live in Dominica and doesn’t know what is happening in this land. I was at the show on Tuesday afternoon listening to Rohie, the self claimed super star artist throughing may pwe towards the First Serenade Band .Rohie is and has constantly been using First Serenade Band music and materials after all these years, to continue to make his fame and to build his fan base. to date he has not produced anything or any material of class that he could rely on. for a few years now lime has sent for Rohie and is the same SERENADE songs that he comes back and sing. what a disappointment in this guy. First Serenade Band was given an opportunity to perform the set what was given to them at the Cadence Lypso Competition and to perform its own afterwards. we all saw what transpired at the WCMF. that’s why they did they didn’t get the opportunity to perform their other segment. we saw SERENADE at CITP and for about 30 mins they did something.so I think Rohan Williams must come better and should apologies to the members of the First Serenade Band and even to the village of Pointe Michel. totally disappointed in rohie. I am looking at this from a by stander point, and believe that now that First Serenade is back on the music scene Rohie is making those comments. the First Serenade Band is much better in terms of its musicians compare to the days of Rohie. last year you remember LIME again was sending for Rohie to perform. again Rohie didn’t want the present set of musicians to accompany him. let me just ask Rohie a question.
ROHIE, why is it that since you left serenade , you have never asked them to accompany you even when you return to Dominica to Perform? Is it that the musicians are not Capable or Competent? this is just a personal opinion. thank you.
Opening of CITP where is the pm how comes he is not there to give his speech was he not invited just asking
