Music artistes and actors in Dominica, along with production company Collywood, will be hosting the first local Film/Music Fest at the Cabrits National Park on August 25.

The event is being held at no cost to the public.

Owner of Collywood, Junior Hart, said the aim of the festival is to portray local talent.

“I believe we now have to show that local artistes can perform and be just as good as any overseas artistes,” he stated.

Hart said that he is positive that Dominican acts will evolve on the regional scale.

“Dominica has an abundance of untapped local talent, with the right support and management investment; Dominican artistes will be awesome throughout the Caribbean and abroad,” he said.

He said Collywood is excited that its has a growing lists of local artistes and actors on it books. “Collywood is very excited with our growing stables of local artistes, both on the film and music side of the business, I am confident that we will be producing high quality Dominica acts for the future who will be able to perform locally and around the other Caribbean Islands. Nothing of this scale has ever been achieved before here on Dominica for local artistes,” Hart said.

He added that plans are being made to step up support for local talent under the new Caribbean Wasp Management.

The Festival promises to be a different kind of day out for the whole family, according to Hart.

Junior, bad timing! The London Notting Hill carnival is at the same time and I know where I’d rather be. I hope it does not rain on your parade
(…you’ll be right smack in the middle of the wet season). Good luck.

What the hell has an oversea event in England have to do with Dominica..I dont think some people get what is happening here..if I am reading behind all this correctly. LOCAL ARTISTES, LOCAL SHOW, FOR DOMINICANS..AFTER THAT WHO EVER WANT TO COME CAN COME!! WHAT HAS AN OVER SEA EVENT GOT TO DO WITH ANY OF THIS. I think in the pass Dominica has been hell bent on trying to attract the tourists, here is somnething that is not geared towards that market…refreshing. Come rain or shine I and my family will be there. Looking forward to this great show. God is good..this is all his work through the individual. Mr Hart stand strong. God is with you and this will be a great success as he is the one who is inspiring you. Have no fear of these negative people. The devil is not stronger than God. Blessings in all what you are doing.

Come on fellows, don’t get so hot under the collar. I sincerely hope Mr. Hart can nurture some real world class talent, originating from Dominica so we can boast about it on the world stage. Our artistes themselves will tell you the local market is too small and does not pay. In 2010 there was a Dominica truck at Notting Hill carnival with our “supposed” best band Triple K. I don’t want to call it exactly a flop but it was not a success either.
We should be looking for quality rather than being parochial. All the best with the festival.

As usual we have to be fighting off our own to succeed instead of embracing pne another. Shame big shame.

” I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character”

      Martin Luther King Jr.

To give someone preferrential treatment because of the colour of their skin is discriminatory and is exactly what lead to apartheid and segregation.
I agree with Dr. King and would rather be judged on the content of my character than the colour of my skin.

Mr Hart, you are doing a fantastic job for our young people, I was at the protest the other week and I could see and feel your passion. Dominica needs investors like you to help this Island progress. Dont worry, what you lose today, you will make 100 folds. The bible says, give and you shall recieve blessings in many ways. Great things you are doing. Bless Coillywood and Bless Dominica and its artistes. :-D

It about time locals put on 100% local home grown talent. Just like how Collywood TV was well recieved in Dominica, This Festival is going to be even better. I think this will be an annual event and will take its place on the Dominica annual events calender.

What a refreshing change to go to a only local Films and Music event with no overseas acts involved. This is another big step that Collywood is creating. it seems there is a bigger picture here. I for one will support this 110%

For someone to come in and stage a free event out of their own pocket is saying something. I read earlier on here where the Haters were spreading their malicious gossip that Collywood is exploiting our artists..this dont look anything like exploitation to me. Well done. Our local artists have been suffering too long from the likes of the Dominican Creole Fest, and the Krazy T’s who had no faith in developing local artists. Mr Hart, I take off my hat to your organization. Keep up the good work and God bless your works.

“The event is at no cost to the public”, however, I hope a contribution is made towards the maintenance of the Cabrits National Park.
