DAEC not backing down on AlKaline issue

With five more days to go before controversial artist, Alkaline, is due to perform on the island, the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches (DAEC) says it is not backing away from its position, although the members have been unable to meet to discuss a plan of action.

The DAEC is opposing the decision to allow the Jamaican Dance Hall/Reggae artist to perform in Dominica.

Vice president of DAEC, Pastor Arlington Wilson told DNO on Monday that the meeting which was expected to take place on Friday was rescheduled.

“We could not have made it so we have to look at a new date,” he said.

The Association which represents the Evangelical body in Dominica, said in a recent interview that while no final decision was made regarding the artist’s performance, protest action was not being ruled out.

Earlan “Allkaline” Bartley, is expected to be the headline act for a concert to be held at the Saaman Gardens in Canefield on Saturday May 2nd.

The DAEC official said his organization is not opposed to the artist himself, but his lyrical content, which, it claims, exhibits demonic activities.

“Our problem really is not with the guy, our problem is with his lyrical content, and that is what concerns us,” he said.

Wilson said the DAEC will be looking at a time of prayer and fasting, as well as holding a press conference and “other things that we feel that is very important to sensitize the general public.”

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that unless Alkaline poses a security risk, the government cannot prevent him from entering and performing on the island.
According to the prime minister, in respect to the free movement of people within the Caribbean Community someone can only be prevented from coming in to the country “if there are security concerns in regards to that person coming in.” He said if there is no security threat and that person is denied entry, the country would be violating that person’s right which can have legal repercussions “and citizens must understand that we have signatories to certain agreements that must be respected at all times.”
He said he has not seen any reports from the regional security framework nor the national security framework which has indicated to him or the Ministry of National Security that Alkaline is a national security risk.
“There is nothing that the government can do to prevent the artiste Alkaline to come to Dominica,” he said. He added that the government is more than willing to discuss with the DAEC their concerns on the Alkaline matter.
But that statement is not sitting well with Wilson.
“I am not necessarily in agreement with him (PM Skerrit),” he stated.
The DACE Vice President argued that the Association is duty bound as spiritual representatives of God to address matters that affect the nation.
“For example he makes reference to security risk,” he stated. “The fact is what we fail to understand is that there is a bigger security risk that can take place because of demonic activities.”
He noted that demons can transmit themselves in songs and speeches and “our young people have the tendency to gravitate towards these and that can pose a bigger risk than what he imagine or anticipate, and therefore we are concerned about that.”
Wilson emphasized that DAEC is not targeting Jamaicans; the group took a very strong stance against another controversial artiste, Tommy Lee Sparta, who was to be featured at a concert in the Portsmouth. The DAEC even held protest action and called for a boycott of the event, since, according to the organization, Tommy Lee’s music glorifies Satan.
Upon entry into the island, Sparta along with three others were deported. They subsequently alleged that they were ill-treated. Discussions on the matter are currently being held the Attorneys General’s Chambers in Dominica and Jamaica with a view to reach an out of court settlement.

    April 28, 2015

I am disappointed that the DAEC is disappointed that the Prime Minister did not respond positively to their request to stop yet another demon from coming to perform. You see my friends the General Elections is not due until 2019 so go and pray for God’s help, now is time to make money not to stop ALKALINE. You remember I told you all that I was stopping TOMMY LEE because he was a threat to national security, well my friends we had to put a brakes on the Portsmouth fella that was bringing him because we thought he was a threat to the DLP future but we realize now the fella is a waste of time so we might settle out of court, if needs be, in keeping with the Treaty of Chaguaramas and the CSME. You fellas already cause us to put the state in debt and now you want us to put the state in more debt. fellas this time is in Roseau the show is being held so we cannot joke with the BLUES…
I am disappointed the DAEC got what they voted for… I just got to laugh

Prior to inviting any artiste to Dominica, the PM should first be consulted. He should approve this man’s visit or not to Dominica as a performing artiste prior to informing the public. This should also include the Immigration Officer who will be granting visitors a permit to enter.
It appears the PM was not consulted prior to inviting this man. Now I read that there is a Jamaican promoter in D/ca. Well, no wonder! What is he doing in D/ca? Is he the one who took it upon himself to invite that man?
The PM said no one can be prevented from coming to Dominica. Well, Tommy Lee was invited. They were fully aware that he was arrested and imprisoned for murder. At the time he came to Dominica, he was out on bail for murder..
Some of those types of organizers in D/ca need to get their heads psychologically tested. They are sick in their heads. This includes the Jamaican promoter which I just learned is in Dominica. What benefit is he to Dominica? I am angry!

As a Christian, for the good of Dominica and nationals, especially the youth, I have a right to comment.
You are a bigger, disrespectful. ignorant idiot for calling me an idiot. It takes one to know one. You do not appreciate what is good but what is not good and ugly also in words. Woe to you!
Those who call educated people idiot, they lack class and dignity. If you had any your writing would be respectful. You have shown yourself to be – what you are.
These people as yourself need to learn a lesson. I hope you do and soon enough. There is a God above who takes note of all words, pro and con. Mark my words, you will pay for your disrespectful and inconsiderate words.
As I stated, the man is of no benefit to Dominica.
I am not wishing anyone harm but I am wary of what is to come.

Evangelical Christians believe Alkaline’s concert threatens the morals and values of the nation’s young people and the lyrics of his songs generates disrespect for civil authority and spawns rebellion and ultimately crime. It is hard to understand why PM Skerrit does not accept this is a threat the national security. The DAEC believe it is. The PM has all he needs to legally stop Alkaline from entering Dominica.

Pastor Wilson is not alone. He speaks for the members of the DAEC. There is probably nobody on the island better qualified to make this evaluation by virtue of their education and experience. They are not the only ones who are concerned. However they must not be discouraged. Like the prophets in the Old Testament they have done what they knew was the right thing to do. They have delivered their warning. That their message was not accepted is symptomatic of the evil in a society that has lost its way.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill, D.D. International Evangelist.

Well said Rev Hill but it will be interesting to see if the pastors and their followings continue to support the PM who as you imply has lost his way and allowed the evil to come in

  7. Blow the trumpet
    April 27, 2015

It is the job of the church to blow the trumpet and sound the alarm when evil is prevailing. However when evil was building its nest in Dominica the DAEC did nothing and sure said nothing. As a matter of fact they helped build that evil nest as they compromised God’s word and became one with evil. They should have said something when an evil and corrupt leader was referred to as Jesus; instead they applauded. They should have reminded their member that it was wrong to lie when one of theirs lied about villas; but they said nothing. They should have sounded an alarm when sexual abuse was on a high; but they opened not their mouth. They should have told our politicians that it was wrong to use state money to buy votes; but instead some were like FEDEX distributing package. They should have told those foreign gospel artist that it was wrong to use God’s name in vain when they accepted money to come and perform in political rallies. Now they want to protest against an artist?

Brethren you all must grow up and stop making people laugh at us. This 1970 theory will go nowhere today because from the very beginning God made both good and evil and put it in the garden. He NEVER took Adam from the evil. He simply told Adam to choose good. To think we could protest, pray, or fast evil out is just misleading. Our job is to preach the gospel and live the gospel. Like I have said before, I don’t care to know anything about this guys lyrics because I belong to a different kingdom. I remember the days when our preaching was about weed. However, soon what we preached against will be legalized. remember the prayer of Jesus in J. 17: 15-16 ” I pray not that thou should take them out of the world, but that thou should keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. In other words, as long as there is a world there will be evil. If we don’t want to see evil then we should pray for death. No, we are not to partake but we cant stop…

What about the “Demons” who are praying on our children by raping and abusing them Pastor Wilson? Where’s the prayer vigil for that?

Where’s the prayer vigil for the drug pushers who are turning our young men and women into addicts?

Where was the prayer vigil for the “Demons” who set ablaze a man in Pottersville because he was unable to pay his drug debts?

That’s right. There were none Pastor Wilson. Furthermore, the association was unable to meet to hold a meeting on an issue that you consider so important. This is sad indeed. How busy were your members that you couldn’t meet?

Once upon a time the church and lay ministers played an important moral role in our society. Today, you guys talk and preach from the keyboards, but take no action on the ground whatsoever.

“The DAEC official said his organization is not opposed to the artist himself, but his lyrical content, which, it claims, exhibits demonic activities.”

Pastor Wilson and the DAEC appear to be specialist in detecting “Demonic Activities” in Dance Hall performers from Jamaica. Given that pastor Wilson has been granted such powers, I am curious why he has not held any prayer vigils, fasting and other religious activities to help combat some of the “Demonic Murders” who are currently walking the streets of Dominica.

Why hasn’t Pastor Wilson led a prayer vigil for “Levi Peters and Evalina Baptiste” who appear unable to convict a “Dry piece of Copra,” these days?

Why didn’t pastor Wilson led a prayer vigil when GON Emmanuel and his wife were fire-bombed at their home?

Until pastor Wilson takes on these aforementioned campaigns and rids Dominica off its own Demonic Forces and others like it, I shall label him a “False Prophet.”

    Charity begins at home Pastor…

If Carnival isn’t demonic, then nothing is!!! Carnival encourages tawdry, immoral activities like the rampant air sex of Jouvert’ and the despicable way drunk people behave in public. Looks demonic to me and it’s not only legal, but the whole mess is paid for by the government!!!

  18. April 27, 2015

Mr Wilson the bible clearly says ‘ Pray without ceasing.’ If we as believers had been doing that Alkaline would not have even thought of coming here. We must admit thzt we have lapsed in that area. We have now taken christianity lightly. All we do is go to church on a Sunday have a good time, the pastor gets a fat salary, while most of the church members are struggling. I am ashamed to say that the standard of christianity has miserably gone down. Mr Wilson you live in Portsmouth which is the second town. There is no seasoned, qualified nor responsible pastor to meet the spiritual needs of people. Where are the trained pastors. We desperately need one in Portsmouth. Where are the Sunday afternoon open airs? Where are the godly christian men? Have you allowed compromise to be your theme word. Wake up pastors and rise from your slumber.

“Let he who is without (sin) cast the first stone” Just because you go to church, does not make you “Godly”. Every man has within himself, the seeds of “demons” as well as Godly. If a lying, thiefing, child beating, mother F_______ can be a “Preacher”, then what the heck … let the man sing and let the people decide for themselves if they want to pay for a ticket. Government is not the peoples “Master”, put in place to save them from themselves. I saw a whole lot of immoral, illegal, unethical and cruel activity while I was living in Dominica and people just laughed. It was appalling!! Trying to stop this guy from singing is just a power trip. Go find something important to do – like read to your child or spend time with your wife – unless you just have children and no wife. If that’s the case, then you’re hopeless anyway and might as well listen to Demon Songs.

Whoever would be a teacher of men let him begin by teaching himself before teaching others; and let him teach by example before teaching by word. For he who teaches himself and rectifies his own ways is more deserving of respect and reverence than he who would teach others and rectify their ways.

You have it all wrong and to suit your mentality and lifestyle. You lack godly spiritual enlightenment. Be careful the BOOO . . . will not be on you in time.
Whatever, in this case you uphold, encourage and approve, God opposes. Go to Holy Scripture of especially the New Testament, from the Gospel of Matthew to The Book of Revelation. Therein lies the directives we, as created human beings are obligated to practice until we are called for our judgment.
Then we will be judged by what we stated and did and what we failed to do and failed to object to, the likes of Alkaline performing in Dominica.
Genuine practicing Christians first have an obligation to God. They should know that they should not approve and encourage the likes of Alkaline in their country.

Saint Pope John Paul II said: “Freedom is not the right to do what we want but to have the freedom to do what we ought to do.”

The streets of Roseau are littered with drug addicts. Young men who have lost their lives thanks to the rising trafficking in crack cocaine in Dominica, as the Caribbean is increasingly used by South American countries like Venezuela to traffic narcotics to the USA. I would propose to the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches (DAEC), that this would be a more spiritual and humane cause to champion than obsessing with, “devil’s lyrics”! When the devil chanted his lyrics at Christ, what did Christ do? Christ chanted some heavenly spiritual lyrics from the Father to the devil. Come on Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches (DAEC), let us hear your heavenly spiritual lyrics from the Father, because even the devil has freedom of speech, ask God!

    • April 27, 2015

Those young men in Roseau are not being forced to take crack cocaine – it’s a choice THEY MAKE FOR THEMSELVES! Let us stop buying into the “Victim Mentality” and encourage our young men to think – and not just obey. Blaming Venezuela for bringing drugs into Dominica and, therefore, forcing people to become drug addicts, is simply not true. Drug addicts choose to abuse themselves. And poverty doesn’t cause it either – that’s just another handy excuse for not taking responsibility for your own life.

We really need to be shocked back into reality and understand that such things or beings only exist in the minds of men. We need proof of what we believe in. We address god as “he, the man upstairs” and so and so forth. Why don’t we consider god to be a she also?
I tell you, religion has us so messed up that we don’t know why we believe what we believe. We just go with the flow without asking questions.
We need to stop giving our hard-earned money to these evangelicals who are just living a grandiose lifestyle and we believe that they are “men of god.”
We need to stop fooling ourselves.

      PEACE
