Daryl Bobb, the versatile performer and calypsonian, is due to represent Dominica at the second annual Caribbean Voices competition in Martinique on the 18th of October.

Representatives from 12 Caribbean countries: Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, St. Martin, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago will gather at the beautiful Aime Cesaire auditorium at the Atrium Cultural Complex in Fort-de-France to compete for the Jeff Joseph Trophy

The trophy was named in honour of one of Dominica’s musical icons who died in 2011.

In addition to the prestigious trophy the winner will receive a cash prize of US$5,000, the second place US$1,500 and the third place US$1,000.

Other participants will receive US$250 each.

Each participant is expected to sing two songs evocative of the musical style of his country; the first number must not exceed 80 beats minute and the second song should be less than 120 beats per minute in tempo.

The production is to be shot by the organisers, the Caribbean Cultures Connection of Martinique, in high definition for television by a twelve camera crew. The television production will be distributed in more than 120 countries primarily in the Caribbean, Europe and Africa and will give the participating countries and the artists very high visibility.

Last year Dominica was represented by Joy Stoute whose performance can be seen below.

Daryl Bobb’s participation is being coordinated by the Association of Music Professionals with the assistance of the Discover Dominica Authority.

Last year the competition was won by Mongstar of St. Lucia, but Bobb is confident that he will bring back the Jeff Joseph trophy to Dominica this year.
