Discover Dominica Authority will hold a series of strategic planning meetings with key stakeholders on the recently concluded 18th World Creole Music Festival.

The meetings will be facilitated by cultural research and strategic planning and management consultant Dr. Keith Nurse. Dr. Nurse is the Executive Director of UWI Consulting Inc, and WTO Chair at the University of the West Indies. Dr. Nurse has over 20 years of experience in the field of research and strategic planning in the Caribbean. He also conducted the first strategic management research on the World Creole Music Festival in 2004. Dr. Nurse will be assisted by Dominican researcher Dr. Schuyler Esprit.

The first strategic planning meeting will be open to the public and will take place at the Arawak House of Culture on Tuesday 25 November 2014 from 4pm to 6pm. Dr. Nurse will present on the structure, organization and performance of the World Creole Music Festival when compared to other festivals within the region. Separate meetings will be arranged with key Festival stakeholders on November 26 – 27, 2014. A full report on Dr. Nurse’s findings is expected by mid December.

Chairman of the Dominica Festivals Committee, Mr. Colin Piper anticipates that through the data and analysis gathered by Dr. Nurse, the Dominica Festivals Committee will be better enabled to raise the standard for the implementation of future editions of the World Creole Music Festival.

Trying to side track again we can have all kinds of planning but if we continue to operate at a loss the end is nearer than we would like to admit. What a way to run a country? We want to know how successful this year festival was with the so called French invasion, hope it not a French white wash. We are waiting for the next spin.

    An observation to be corrected.

The WCMF and DFC must be aware of the creeping influence of political operatives in having the renowned Calypso King Dice being treated with such contempt. Which foreign artists DFC would request to sing that song and that song, but not that song in a Music festival? King Dice on WCMF stage singing old time road march tunes, as dictated by the DFC. Come on.

What disrespect. The WCMF offers the local artist the opportunity to showcase his/her talent to the world audience. Dice has more than enough , brilliant, infectious, top-class calypsos to perform in our WCMF. Why not allow the calypsonian his one and a half hours? Songs are World Class. His voice and singing abilities march any in the Caribbean.. That attitude or decision was based entirely on some foolish partisan. nonsense.., Dice should not be allowed in WCMF 2014 to sing the calypsos he wishes? The world should not hear, “It’s nothing strange, we just want change.”

The signs are plain to see. Control the print media, and A/V (audio-visual) TV. Control information flows/outlets. The popular art form, calypso, make politicians screech.. So DFC’s action must be taken in that context. It’s real.

Artists beware. That total disrespect for our top calypsonian is inexcusable. It was calculated. Evaluate such actions/decisions, with a view to prevent any future influence, political (partisan) or otherwise. It’s pathetic.

All that money being spent on elections bringing in a different foreign artist everyday could of been spent making our WCMF greater than it was…..this money could of been spent to bring in Top, up to date artist- as WCMF committee always use the excuse that they cant afford……now elections are here all money spending on foreign artist…..In addition, foreign artist get most of the money for WCMF; now is election still foreign artist taking our campaign money and go……why cant this campaign money at least stay in the hands of local talented artist that are dying to get an opportunity to get paid….where is our government patriotic pride and wiliness to put money in the people hands apart from hand outs…..we are willing and able but foreigners will continue to reap the benefits….. disappointed.

The only strategic planning that should take place is how to get Piper out of that job so he can find something where he has to work for his money.

What BS is this! “Strategic Planning on an Historical Event.” Never heard of such. Strategic Planning is about the future not the past. DNO you may need to correct this Headline. I think the task Dr. Nurse is about to undertake may be more appropriately described as an “Evaluation/Assessment of WCMF 2014” for the purpose of ascertaining what lessons can be learnt and incorporated into planning for future events.

They can do all the research they like, and that is welcome but one thing I don’t want to hear again is that this event is running at a loss and the taxpayers have to pick up the tab. I swear, as long as we have so many VIP with free ticket and entertainment I am not going to pay my hard earned money again to supply the privileged with a free fete.
