St Mary’s Academy student and two-time Junior Calypso Monarch winner Sheldon “De Professor” Alfred will seek to defend his crown this afternoon when the 2011 edition Junior Calypso Monarch gets underway at the Harlem Plaza.

Alfred outdid eleven other junior calypsonians last year to secure his crown at the Junior Calypso Monarch Competition.

De Professor’s won with a song entitled ‘Vacancy’ and he was crowned the Junior Calypso Monarch for the first time in 2009 with ‘Paros Everywhere”.

Among other competitors this year are Lemar “De Irish Kid” Irish, “Lady Savy” and “The Jewel”. Competitors hail from various primary and secondary schools on the island.

Musical accompaniment will be provided by Triple Kay Global.  The Leo Club is the organizer of the event.

The show was great. NECS and the little miss Jackson (2nd and 3rd place winners) were clearly the best. The two young ladies show great promise.

Yes MOTS I agree. The child from NECS is really good though. The boy should move on for true, he needs to compete with Dice and Karessah now.

It took Sheldon years to get where he is today, let the boy enjoy himself. Over the years he has grown, his voice has developed. He success came from year of participating in Junior Mornarch non stop and his love for Calypso.

    Dear Editor
It is indeed regrettable that, up to this point in time, no mention has been made of Tasha P’s success at the Calypso Queen Competition!! Let us encourage our Artists to strive for excellence!

i think it is time this young man step up to the higher level,,,, to be competing in high school things is a mismatch due to his experience,,, not only that,,, this young man comes into competition with songs written by professional song writers for the big stage,,, so it’s kind of unfair to other students who may not have the chance or the opportunity to have such help,,,, so next year god’s willing he must consider going up for the real thing,,,,,, any way tasha p good luck to u,,,, u look real lovely but my girl calypso is big man thing so don’t have ur hopes too high lol

I was at the show and more than half the songs were written by Ian Jackson, Tim Durand and Pat Aaron. The same persons who right for the senior calypsonians.
