Nine calypsonians will go up against reigning Monarch Dennison “Dice” Joseph at the biggest event of the Carnival season, the 2015 calypso final.
Bobb will start the ball rolling at the show which will be staged on Valentine’s Day (Saturday 14, February) at the Windsor Park Stadium.
Next in line is Superior Picky followed by Sting Ray.
Karessah will perform fourth and Boople at number 5. De Professor follows in sixth place with seven-time monarch Dice coming in at number 7.
Black Diamond and Jama B will perform at eight and nine respectively.
Daddy Chess will close the competition at number 10.
Meanwhile Advertising and Promotions Officer of the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC), Val Cuffy, has described calypso as an integral part of Dominica’s Carnival and called on Dominicans to support the art form in in a big way.
He said at a news conference on Friday that as a calypsonian and prominent business owner, it was his “duty to express how I feel about certain issues.”
“Certain things that is not going the way we like it to. It doesn’t mean that if someone objects to it that we should hate the person…I am saying what I am saying because I think we can do better for Calypso in Dominica. We can make it happen in a very positive way…we can look to provide support.”
Cuffy is making a plea for calypsonians to be given more recognition, especially the reigning King.
“We need to start moving him to the next level,” he argued. “A man cannot be a seven time King and he’s based in Dominica alone. He needs to be going out there marketing.”
“Root for whoever you want and let us make this Calypso on Valentines night a success,” Cuffy urged.
The event is expected to begin at 8:30 pm.
Tickets cost $80 and VIP Party Stand cost $150.
Tickets are available at the Calypso House at Bath Estate and Bull’s Eye Pharmacy.
Mr. Cuffy I agree with your comments because some of our people don’t understand King Dice should be an name in the International market, how many Calypsonians that we know won the crown 7 times how many, I sit in Antigua Airport waiting for my connection and not one Dominican calypso is being played, and how many of us purchase the CD’s How about those people from the Diaspora will they buy before they return home We have go to do better than that, marketing is what we have to invest in going forward, some of the Calyposians can start making connection out side Dominica but we have to start making songs that will sell out there . Calypso Association have to pull up their sock get moving it helps not only the guys but you also , The art form is worth fighting for and look at the type of huge crowd that turned out every show, we need to invest in the art form regardless of sides
I must say De Bob was very good because I listened to the content in the message they were crafted .
This would be very nice if my 7 times King could go out and maket Dominica in a big way, He need to sing General songs not only songs about Dominica politics, I think thats what keeping back.
Dice go do your thing…..again…..and again….good luck guys and lady
Recognition for singing garbage
you are so true
