‘Dominican Christmas’ celebrated in New Jersey

Dancers at the 'Dominican style' Christmas Party in New Jersey

“KNOW YOUR CULTURE DANCE GROUP” would like to thank the Dominican community for their support at our Old Fashion Dominican Christmas Party which was held in New Jersey on December 17th, 2011.

We celebrated in the spirit of the season and danced to Christmas carols with a Caribbean twist.  The DJ did a great job mixing the music and everyone was rocking to the old time artists like Grammacks, Taboo Combo and Chubby.

A variety of Dominican food favorites were available, including Christmas Black cake, Sorrel, Ginger Beer, Sous, Bakes and Accra/saltfish, Callalou Soup and Fish Broth.  It was a great feeling seeing the young and the old in peace and harmony celebrating the season together.

It was a party with a twist, because we were entertained by the young dancers performing various dances that they choreographed.  They danced to the music “the little Drummer Boy” played by the Ruff and Reddy Band of Dominica. The teenage girls danced to “Joy to the World” with their dazzling Christmas costume.

It was a delight watching the kids, showcase their talents and culture. The Jing Ping Band added a feel of Dominican Christmas caroling and no one could resist getting up and shaking it on the dance floor.

It’s a shame that some Dominicans are still so small minded. Come on now, what can be so negative about an event like this? We had a great time and that’s all that matters

Dominicans need to stop being so negative….My daughter Maya is in this picture and belongs to the group KYC. The children have been dancing and celebrating their culture much the same as any Dominican on the island. This costume was designed to fit a song….I am disappointed by such a comment……Be more informed before making such a comment….These are kids enjoying their culture and learning about DOminica…

Well I always remembered making an excuse to go to church which was “I don’t have church clothes” and the response I received was “render your hearts and not your garments”. With such GREAT Joy and smiles this holiday season, it’s good to see that even the kids can go out their norm and celebrate christmas/dca culture no matter the attire. On the other hand looks like you have and will continue doing the same thing each year which is to “burst canoe”. Keep it up my friend doing a good job…
