Former DFC Executive Director says the WCMF will not be affected by her resignation

Springer says her departure will not affect this year's WCMF
Springer said her departure will not affect this year’s WCMF

Former Executive Director of the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC), Claudine Springer, has assured Dominicans that the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), which is to be held from October 28 to 30, will not be affected by her abrupt departure from the organization.

“I believe the festival will be fine. I truly do,” she told Dominica News Online, in an interview, on Friday.

Springer stated that this belief is based on the experience and competence of the team responsible for the staging of the WCMF.

“I have no concerns as to whether or not they can execute the things that we have put in place…” she remarked. “The team upstairs is more than capable of implementing, and they have a plan. And, they’ve shown that they’ve done it before in the past.”

She said a production manager has now been employed, to ensure that the show runs seamlessly.

“I made some changes, like I brought in a production manager who will work with your stage manager to make sure that the production side of things runs smoothly,” Springer divulged. “These things stay even after my departure.”

Springer, from St. Lucia, resigned on Friday morning, after assuming the position of Executive Director of the DFC in June.

She said that she no longer considered herself fit for the position, and stressed that her resignation was a personal decision towards preserving her happiness, and that no fault lies with the DFC or Discover Dominica Authority (DDA).

The position had been vacant for about three years, following the resignation of former Executive Director, Natalie Clarke.

Springer’s first major task was the 2016 WCMF.

It begs the question, why do we need and Executive Director? As a tax payer we are paying a salary for a position where the position holder is of the view that that team will achieve everything without her, so why are we wasting money on this position of Executive Director of the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC)? If I hire a Director to run my business and he or she tells me that the business will be just as effectively and efficiently run without him or her, then I would seriously consider scrapping the position and saving the money! Ms Springer, with all due respect to her, by her actions, may just have inadvertently revealed that this position is totally unnecessary and a waste of tax payers money! But again, Dominicans are not concerned about how our taxes and finances are managed by our Government anyway, so nothing will change! The wastage continues…

Again in an attempt to” preserve my happiness ” simply means I was not happy in the job. What could have made this professional want to seek or rather preserve her happiness after less than three months in a job? That’s the big question. She loves Dominica she says most people who love a country that much usually hangs around to see if there are other opportunities around or just to simply bask in the tranquillity of nature island . But to pack up, pick up and to leave all of a sudden not even giving notice suggest to me all is yet to be told. But be it as it may I respect the young ladies decision and wish her well. I am almost certain in time the reason for her sudden departure will be known. Acer Blanton song comes to mind with a little addition ” I know people who know people that know people that can’t hold a secret and I know will soon talk. lol.

I believe the entire staff at DDA/DFC is relieved under the former DFC director. Her very own country refused her because of her nasty attitude towards people. In the first place why did DDA had to take her over our very own? Thanks goodness the festival will go on, and yes miss Springer you were honestly not fit for the job. we wish you well, but you need a change of attitude to be able to elevate in life and to work with people.

Miss Springer was the right person for the job she had the passion and desire and knew exactly what needed to be done however, when you have ONE man who believes he knows it all and will NOT let anyone have a voice the frustration will build up.

its about time the government sit him down and inform him that he cannot drive the ship alone and he need to let people to their job HE needs to stop micro managing and let WCMF, Carnival and the other activities be great again

When you want a successful performance from an executive, you have to empower them, support them, respect them, and listen to them. Ms Springer probably had 10 bosses pulling her in 10 different directions, as happens in DA. Most people leave a job because of bad bosses. Good luck to you in your next assignment, Ms Springer.

      Mr. Volney,
The woman was the worse thing that happened to WCMF.
The woman had no idea what she was doing. Complained about everything. Tried to get rid of prominent stake holders for her St Lucian friends. What was even worse, she could not even type and possess the worse attitude. She don’t understand the creole culture neither could she speak the creole language.
The only thing she can talk about is been involved in recommending a production manager.

My word get your facts from the people that worked there. That’s why she will not be missed. She was insignificant that’s why she was fired.

U speaking with no facts. That is why u said “PROBABLY”. It’s time we learn to speak when we should have to and not whenever we feel to or want to.
