Julie Mourillon, one of the pioneers of cadence-lypso, has launched his latest album.

The album is called “Ba Mwen Nouvel.”

Mourillon started his musical career with the band Exile One and together acted as one of the pioneers of cadence-lypso. That style of music dominated the dance music scene in Dominica, Martinique, Guadeloupe and other French Creole islands during the 1970’s. This brought Dominica’s music to international appreciation.

Mourillion started his solo career in in the 1980’s and has taken his music to different directions including reggae, soca, bouyon, cadence and merengue. He has toured Africa, Europe, USA, the Caribbean and the Pacific. He has worked with musicians in Paris, reggae band Third World and superstar Jimmy Cliff.

The album is being distributed by Debs Music.

Didn’t Julie do a stint with Alpha Blondie? I remember going to one of their concerts years ago, and I am almost certain he was with the band. Somebody, correct me if I am wrong.

I remember the band being made up mostly of Dominicans. That was back in the 80s. I remember Jno-Baptiste (from Layou) was on bass (I think), Jose Shillingford was on drums and there was Julie on guitar (I think). It was a really good concert. I was invited back stage with the band after the show. I don’t think I have seem more smoke from weed as I saw that night.

Taking a casual back seat. Sometimes just listening and observing can pay dividends. But I have been in the background. Julie is a long time friend.

I remember watching Julie carve serrations on a bamboo stick in Vieille Case. He then used it as a percussion instrument by sliding two sticks along the serrations while rythmically chanting “Zandolie pa ni deux pat… Zandolie pa ni deux pat”

That’s music from the soul, heart and hands.

    Thanks Julie!!!

Wooden Stool…That was not a band that Ced Rock little brother was singing for? Yah boy! In those days SMA had a set of fellas who loved playing music: Gordon, Fitzroy,Anison, Gregory and his brother Sinky, Glen John, Patto Aaron, Masterlin, Kelly, Pat Patrice, Ollie Cruikshank and his brother Marcel, Kremlin, Vivian Wallace. Mark Marie was Gordon good friend.
So class going on eh, and Everlasting had just come out wit that song: Hol’ me dahlin’ Everlasting, Leh we jump and drink our rum. Everlasting hol’strain…hol strain!! an Julie running past Room 103…Hol’Strain…Hol’ Strain. So since SMA Julie love his music.

Congratulations Julie…and…All the best with the launching of this new album….
You always made good music anyway.

You guys know that word “whooeyee”?…Well it was Julie who penned that….Julie invented that word, and infused it in songs.
“Hey ,Julie, we need a word for this song”…..Julie would reply,,”whooeyee”!…And that friends, was the beginning of that word….

But all jokes aside,Julie is a great musician and a very good songwriter…He is also a cool dude…with a smile, not too far away.

Seasons greetings my brother. Peace, and all the very best to you….

    One Love, my Friend.

    UPTOWN REBEL!!!.
