A goat pageant is one of the many activities that will form part of the first-ever Goat Festival in the community of La Plaine on Saturday.
The event, which aims to highlight the work of goat-rearing farmers in the area, kicks off at 11:00 am with musical entertainment from the Kubuli Big Truck.
Activities for the day will include a Lapo Kabwit drumming display from the two major Lapo Kabwit groups in the community, a goat race and a goat pageant.
Festival attendees will be able to purchase fresh goat meat and enjoy curry goat dishes with rice, ground provisions and peas plus at least another dozen goat dishes.
There will be discussions on how future farmers can expand their markets and any technical assistance and resources they can access in selling goat milk to local and regional customers and in making goat milk cheese, ice cream and fudge.
The festival will also include a regional Soca, R& B, Calypso, Creole and Bouyon Music showdown set to feature visiting teen talent Of St Lucia “Ricky Boy.”
“Ricky Boy” has received major branding support since his arrival on island and is expected to perform a 45 minute repetoire of Soca, Creole and R& B Music all of which were originaly written by him and produced by J Records in St Lucia.
Digital Vybez and Ncore Band are also expected to perform.

What a creative initiative! 3 Cheers to the folks of Laplain. Dominicans really are a creative set of people. Rabbit, goat, titiwi, fish, pig etc etc . what will they think of next
However in the future lets suggest they spaced out these events better. For this weekend alone there will be about 8 major events taking place simultaneousely including, fairs, fetes, concerts, reunions etc etc. they should space them out better so they don’t clash since dominica has only a limited clientele and limited spending power

That pageant is bound to release some stress. Wow. just thinking of all the fun activities that will take place have me feeling stress free and irie already, not to mention all them different dishes..Sweet!! Way to go La Plaine. Keep it up.

I am verry proud that dominica is taking the initiative promoting goat rearing, goat is an intrigal part of our culture, and throught out the caribean .there is a saying in NEW YORK the olny way you know you are at a west indian party is when you see some goat stew.
I would like to buy some goat to raise for milk , and for food, if the farmers make the information available to the public at the goat fair I would be glad to follow thru.

There are all sorts of festivals as Rabbit Festival. From time to time I purchase goat meat. It is tasty. Do not make me hungry and yearn for it. Would love a piece of goat meat.
This weekend is Caribana weekend in Toronto and a time for Caribbean fish/meat and other delicacies. I will be going to a BBQ this weekend and so I expect I will get some goat meat. This never fails. 
Looking forward to it.
Keep in mind that God did not create those animals and their edible meat for nothing. They are for our consumption on condition we eat a moderate portion.
