One of the highlights of the Carnival season, the Lagoon Street Jam, is on tonight (Monday) and organizers are expecting a mammoth crowd and an early start at the Piper’s Step location in Lagoon, Roseau from 7:00 pm.
Manager of the Swinging Stars and chief organizer of the event, Norman Letang told Dominica News Online that patrons can expect to have a great time.
“The Lagoon Street Jam is on tonight, we expect it to start by 7-7.30 pm to 8 pm at the latest to midnight,” he said. “Everything is in place. So just come and have a wonderful time. You will hear most of the popular tunes, free of charge.”
He mentioned that the main road will be closed in that area to facilitate the setting up of the stage from 5:00 pm.
A variety of “up tempo calypsos” from Stardom Tent and the Swinging Stars will be providing entertainment, he said.
Daddy Chess, Hunter, Lugurz, Black Diamond, Jay Dee, Karessah, Shadow Flow, De Professor, Chris B, Comforter, and Superior Picky are expected to hit the stage.
The Young Bull from the Showdown Mass Camp and the Mighty Pigtail from the Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority (DASPA) Calypso show will also be featured.
“So we are going to have a wonderful night tonight in Lagoon,” Letang continued.
He stated that the Lagoon Street Jam came into existence because “it was always a dream of mine to have the Swinging Stars play in Lagoon.”
“We are looking to have thousands of people there,” Letang stated.
I love the Swinging Stars! I recall those days at dances and for carnival. Swinging Stars was my (our) Number One Band for also the carnival days. What music! It is still my Number One Band.
Norman, it is too bad you did not plan one in those days in D/ca. Remember when also the Fingals resided there and other prominent people resided around the corner. Many of us who resided in especially Roseau and Goodwill would have attended. I suppose at that time you did not think of it.
I hope all of you had fun on Monday night and it did not rain on your parade, your jump up.
If you see this, Norman, please say hi to your wife, Sonia. The Phillips and Letangs are dear to my heart. Much more could be stated.
You know, I racked my brains, hoping I remembered her name, not having seen her (both of you) for a while, I recall at a wedding in Ontario. The Phillips are many. Whenever I see both of you I will inform you who stated this. God bless!
