With his popular song, Long Tongue, Cletus ‘Halibut’ Abraham pushed 19 other hopefuls out of the way to win the three-year old NCCU Cadence-lypso competition for the second time.

Abraham won the competition in its debut year in 2011. However, he missed last year’s event which was won by Webster ‘De Webb Marie’.

This year, De Webb placed 3rd while Shirley Charles took the first runner-up position in the contest which was held on Saturday evening, October 19, at New Town Savannah.

DNO, you have the facts wrong. Firstly, this is the second year of the NCCU Cadence competition. Webster Marie won last year. The first time Cletus Abraham won was in 2005, but it was not held by the NCCU.

QTS should be at a different time of year. The songs that are sung at not original, not local and no where near our culture.

Congrats! To Leona and Earl you guys made the community of Bense, Anse de mai, Anse soldat proud, meaning we feel great that you all could display such talent. We are aware that competition was tight and everyone tried their best. But you stood out, so cut out the negative vibes and give those young people a break.

Congrats to harley Butt…….. for putting forward a Cadence Lypso song…. This year many artists had groovy soca songs, calypso songs…. They forgot or actually ignored the fact that it was a cadence lypso competition

I agree. some of the songs were clearly not in the cadence genre. I think the organizers should define some guidelines for participants.
