CALYPSO POLITICS & LIBEL – A Video Series On D TV (powered by DNO)

Duncan StoweD TV, a video-on-demand service powered by DNO, is once again presenting a series of videos on the topic “Calypso, Politics & Libel” which was recorded at a panel discussion organized by the Dominica Calypso Association (DCA) in 2014.

The DCA activity was held following a Court award of EC$135,000.00 against a local calypsonian.

The various videos can be viewed through the D TV video player on the DNO Home Page.

Calypso is a divisive tool used by slaves against the masters. Now we are stuck using it against ourselves. Beff, gossip, maypwe, talking behind each other’s backs, even slander and libel in some cases. Very reflective of our culture and society. This is why blacks will not overcome, and dominica will remain as it is. we love these aspects of human behavior. to get a little beff on your neighbor etc. “social commentary” they say. Dominican Society is in turmoil and i believe it should mind its business and focus on other things to teach us better and elevate our consciousness and well being. Calypso doesnt lend itself to that.

SMDH this goes to show that we still have slave masters and that you do not necessarily have to be white to qualify to be one.
