Local Alkaline promoter speaks out

Alkaline will perform in Dominica on May 2
Alkaline will perform in Dominica on May 2

One of the promoters of a show featuring controversial Jamaican artiste, Alkaline, is of the opinion that the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches (DAEC) is only looking at one side of the coin as it relates to his performance in Dominica.

DAEC is strongly opposing the appearance of Alkaline at the show on May 2 but Dane ‘Danejah Dane’ Smalling told Dominica News Online there are various benefits to the event.

He noted that the show is a form of earning revenue.

“I have no problem with the DAEC but we all have our family and dependents to take care of … this is our livelihood,” he said.

He noted that the event is providing employment for up to 50 locals.

“So this is not just about us,” he explained. “Sometimes you have to watch the bigger picture and don’t let your ego get in the way. We are all seeking a better way out. ‘Judge not’ and ‘he who is without sin cast the first stone’ are just some of the things we as Christians should live by.”

Smalling stated that everything is coming on “smoothly” for Saturday when the show is carded to be held at Saaman Gardens in Canefield.

According to him the police have teamed up with organizers to provide security for the event.

He is also advising patrons to leave their disagreements outside.

“This is not the event to come and settle your differences,” he said, “We have a zero tolerance for that … so please don’t come with any form of offensive weapons or banned substances.”

Smalling added that based on the response that he has been getting, many people are interested in attending the show.

Alkaline, whose real name Earlan Bartley and who created a stir in Jamaica when he tattooed his eyes, will host a press conference at the Digicel store on Great George Street on Friday May 1 at 2:00 pm.

The event will be carried live on Kairi FM and Q95.

i mean i agree on both sides but thechurch people the bible says judge not, we all are sinners, if u guys claim to be faithful why are you disregarding the words of the bible, its not u guys concern, pray, if you guys were so faithful and sinsless your prayers can work, call unto the lord and u shall be answered u guys are really making a mockery of u guys self. there are alot of things happening on the island 2 out of the many rightous men who follow the lord arent hypocrete, listen to what pastor rodney say on mat, he disregards the situation but who is he to judge, he nor his family wouldnt be going it isnt his concern and i come nd him, so u so called pastors should learn to do the same MIND YOU GUYS OWN BUSINESS, AND BY THE WAY I WILL BE GOING. :-D 8)

Money can be the root of all evil. Selling your souls to the devil by as much as bringing this man to D/ca and to perform.
You mentioned about creating jobs. How much money will those locals be paid and for what duration?
We will hear and read more.

Christians thinks that their belief are the only beliefs that should be fallowed. Guess what, we are govern by the rule of law and not that of religion. Democracy comes full circle. It involves all aspect of our lives. If it wasn’t for democracy the DAEC would not have a chance to even talk about Alkaline. I don’t like his music and I will not be going to the show but that is only me and doesn’t apply to everyone else.

I don’t see anyone selling their souls to the devil by attending a show . If so then we should ban carnival in Dominica . Have you guys ever watch the way people dress and behave during carnival ? is it any different from a song being sang ? There are so many sins being committed in our own homes and we hiding them under the bed . I look at it this way, you don’t like the guy and his songs , don’t go and don’t listen. I am not a christian in the way people categorize us , but i will not be going to the show and no one is going to influence me at all . So what is the DAEC so afraid ? Life cannot stand still just because we don’t like something , it is not coming to our homes where we have the right to say come in or stay out . Let the show go on. Everyone has the right to choose . we are living in a free country that is govern by laws and the law said he is free to come and preform, so DAEC put a sock in it and move to issue that you can really help solve. Enjoy the…

So the Alkaline concert will be creating jobs? How many and for how long?

What the promoter is actually saying here is that Alkaline will be sharing some of the loot with local people.

If this buys the team acceptance on the island it actually means that the souls of the young people are being sold for a profit for a small number of people and that for a short time.

The “bigger picture” has already been posted and need not be repeated.

When people enjoy this type of “entertainment” they experience that fuzzy feeling of agreeing with the message of the lyrics. It is based on no logic and comes from no objective analysis. It is psychological and is driven by the beat of the music. Those who are already prone to rebel against authority including that of God, parents, and government find themselves identifying with the artists; thinking as they think and taking on their lifestyle.

This is not helping the country.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International…

    • April 29, 2015

Reverend Hill I was thinking the same thing when I read the line: “50 people will have employment”!

I am asking what is 50 people and employment for how long?

This person sound like, what do I care as long as I am getting paid with his “we all have our family and dependents to take care of”–if you know what I mean.

I cannot say that I know the motive of the Churches for opposing the performance of that young man in Dominica, but I have great concern about the growing of our young people with a mind condition grounded on futility. We need to stop being so selfish; to take heed of those situations on behalf of all; and the time is now, tomorrow may be too late.

    • jamesd
      April 29, 2015

You really want to talk about logic and objective analysis when not long ago you were talking about demons as if they were something that existed? Are you people for real? People enjoy music because we are somehow hard-wired to gravitate towards melody and beat. Look up the term ‘diabolus in musica’. Don’t be a hypocrite, you all use hyped up music in your churches too to get people in the ‘spirit’, something that the early churches we strongly against since they considered that it took away from the solemnity of the christian practice. You’re basically using the same techniques that these artists are using.

      Donald Hill

Can I ask you besides trying to destroy event that people work hard to create, what have you ever done to uplift the youth of Dominica or elsewhere?

I would suggest that you go out there and let people see what positive contribution you have to make inshad of waiting time telling people what type of music to listen to…

That is a personal choice, and none of your dam business!!!

The promoter is promoting his show, u need to try out there and promote east you are going in the community..

which is why i ask the question: what do you actually do besides discriminate against people and spread negativity and ignorance…?

Children are being abused and you all remain silent. Alkaline is NOT the cause of the abuse. The country’s resources are being fleeced by the government that many of you hypocrites support. Alkaline is NOT the cause of the corruption. Our young men remain unemployed and marginalized while Chinese are being imported to work, your moral outrage is silent on that. Alkaline is NOT the soutiweh to that.

GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSES AND START TO THINK OF HOW WE CAN STOP THE ABUSE OF OUR CHILDREN AND THE MARGINALIZATION OF OUR YOUNG MEN!

Thanks Sunshine… i must tell it like it is… If having Alkaline to Dominica is selling our souls, then can you imagine how many times we have sold our souls to the devil in our actions words and thoughts? Come on people, we are all consumed with good and evil may the best attitude win. goodness always prevail anyways… That said, lets not be hypocrites, come may 2nd we are going to support our neighboring brother from JA. It takes all types of people to make up society this is what give life it unique flavor, spice of life and all the good stuff, however we need to keep bad people behind bars and allow the better ones to have a free chance in life to become good persons. Just like d rum will never die cus d ol ones teach d yung ones to drink it,, to the older/wiser people show us the way to wisdom, knowledge to pave the way to the positive path. we must ask ourselves…. are we good leaders in our home :?: in our church :?: schools :?: We must practice the good that we preach.

Let it be known that not everyone is pleased that this Alkaline was invited to Dominica to perform. It is their right to object. There is nothing you can do about it.

    • April 29, 2015

      @Battering Ham April 28, 2015

Your idea is the attitude of the mind which is lost to God and His laws of “Love” and “Holiness”. The enemy is forever speaking to that mind condition, which easily accept those feedings, because the conscience is dead–not being connected to God, you have no feeding from Him.

You speak like a song that I have heard where part of it says “One drink was too many but a thousand was not enough.” This happens when we decide to obey the enemy and to take that first drink.

One song with bad lyrics and, or obscene performance, will not mean anything to you, as you say that you or we have done worst than that. But the more your mind accept those bad lyrics the more it learns to put them in form through your words and deed.

The next thing which happens is that you become worse than that first /singer performer–but you need to know that God is still in control and He is watching–you, me, and them; we cannot hide from Him.

Danejah is only interested in money. He is only interested in one side of de coin.
    weak argument.
We don;t have laws to prevent Alkaline from performing in Dominica.
We don;t have laws to hide his offensive, dirty, degrading lyrics from minors. Our youth don’t have dat kind of protection from the law. Who really cares anyway?!
De law WILL protect his right to perform! There is alot of money for de police to make.
De law WILL NOT protect anyone from Alkaline’s offensive influence on our youth. De police can’t make money from that.
Anyone and everyone has a right to demonstrate/agitate.

    Our laws can’t ban Alkaline.
Our laws can’t ban nor prevent DAEC from protesting/demonstrating
Whether we like it or not. We don’t have to support it.

    • April 29, 2015

Some of us are a bunch of hypocrites.
The songs are played on the air.
What is your point? Parents need to take responsibility
      for their homes.
Where is the church when the women in
Dominica walk with their bottoms, breast and vagina outside!
Where is the church when the young me walk the streets
      with their bottoms outside?
Where is the church when married Christian
men prey on the young, innocent women in
      the church?
The DAEC need to fast for cleansing.
The biggest sins are victimization and disparity.
A young man lost his job because of bad
      judgement(where flexibility) could be used
the churches saw no wrong with it.
They sit idly by and supports the ills that have
happening in Dominica just to get funds for
their churches. Now who is sleeping with the
enemy(Satan)? How is the DAEC better than
      Smally?
One cannot put on the armor of Christ

It could be argued that mr. Smalling is also looking at only one side of the coin, a real coin in this case. Indeed the show is a way to generate revenue, for the organisers in the first place but at the expense and inconvenience of the residents of Canefield, whom I doubt will be be able to enjoy their nighty rest comes saturday. Sleep deprivation is a serious detriment to health as is noise pollution.

I totally agree with the local promoter’s statement, i couldn’t agree more… There are worst things in life and in Dominica and believe you me Alkaline is not the cause of this. Redrum/murder, drugs, forbidden sex, just to name a few, which all the religions talk about in their sermons yet they cant stop reggae, why? cause the pastors/priest know all this will come to past. Do not stand there and talk about this young man like he is the spun of Satan and you are the savior on earth, you are nothing but a sinful sinner trying to find your way to our father’s home like all of us. So instead of JUDGING and claiming to be perfect, only our creator can do that, so my suggestion to you is pray for our young people. May i suggest something else? listen to alkaline’s lyrics, he’s good, very flavorful guy, he talks about life good and bad and so what if he sings about sex, we do it anyway wrong or right so singing about it makes no difference. go read your proverbs…. 22. pray more, preach more
    April 28, 2015

The DAEC is tired of making a mockery of Christianity. It was just about a week ago the same PM Skerrit they exalted and compared to Jesus, sent them to pray more, preach more and get more familiar with CCARICUM treaties. It was that same Skerrit that an evangelical pastor in Dominica described as one of the country’s “wisest” leaders. You remember when Evangelist Peter R made that statement during a funeral? See https://dominicanewsonline.com/news/homepage/news/general/pm-skerrit-described-one-dominicas-wisest-leaders/ Tuesday, September 9th, 2014 at 2:16 PM. Because they helped the Pm play his political game during the Tommy Lee deportation the thought their “wisest leader” would be used by them this time. What they failed to realize is that next election is in 5 years time and Skerrit has no immediate need for them now like he had during the Dec 2014 election. I do hope they take Skerrit’s advice and go pray more, preach Gods word and avoid allowing themselves to be used as FEDEX
