Local artiste “DeeArr,” releases video for racy new single

Donnel “DeeArr” Romain
Donnel “DeeArr” Romain

Portsmouth-based R&B artist Donnel “DeeArr” Romain released a steamy new music video last night (August 22nd , 2013) and the social media world is buzzing about it.

The LionHeart Records singer teamed up with fellow LHR member Addison “A-DiDi” Aaron and Bertist “BERT” Jeffers from CHOEB on his new sexually-tinged single entitled ‘Put It Down’.

According to DeeArr, the song is the lead single from his mixtape ‘Ladies Man,’ and in keeping with the theme, the song is directed towards women who, “totally understands her man and his needs, stands by him and is down for him.”

Former national Carnival Queen Pageant winner Marcia Baptiste plays the role of one of the love interests in the video.

The video was shot at an upscale villa compound in Savanne Paille in the north and is the final of several summer music videos released by production company Ambo Visuals.

why they doesnt say anything when the americans trying to sing like we caribbean people? kanye west and a lot of other artiste always droping a line in their songs trying to sing or talk like jamaicans. both kanye west and jay-z latest album have a track or more with a reggae feelings. youll need to stop that nonsense! barbados never give rihanna that kind of criticism when she was coming up. right now she blew up and she sing like an american 98% of the times. why? cause thats how R&B was made to sing. its american culture. if anybody trying to rap or sing R&B with a dominican accent, I cant even imagine how it would sound. try thinking of jay-z singing boyoun! perfect example. the song the partner made “sortie desan” trying to imitate the british accent. that was just kicks cause it dont sond right. wyclef is from haiti! he sings like americans but he still sing a variety of music like zouk and all kind of stuff. Dominicans need to chill and let them people/Artiste do their thing. when they get signed to a big record label one day is then all u will want to give praises and say “ya man mister from dominica u know” “we have talent you know” let me stop type cause i wouldt stop. Hypocrite set of people man!

Back in the day it was all about courtship…there is a species which is rapidly becoming extinct and that is GENTLEMEN, who did not only think about a woman as someone to cater to his every need….but who also wanted to cater to her every need…not only physically but also emotionally and spiritually..

Another species becoming extinct are LADIES. You know, the kind who used to make men wait for it…Now a days women feel if they don’t act like sexual objects and give in right away the men will go to a woman who will..WELL LET THEM GO THEN! HE DOESN’T DESERVE YOU IF HE WON’T WAIT FOR IT!

This song talks about “She lets me do my thing at the end of the day she knows I’m a man what it is..”…SMH…

Dominicans why are we so negative??? Even if they sang a track like WCK or Triple K people would still have negative and defamatory things to say because that’s what we do. We can never find the positive. Never ever. We enjoy bringing down our own. This might not have been the best video up to BET and MTV standards but it was pretty impressive coming from DA… To the fool talking about Ms Professional been a video model. What century are you living in cuz clearly that statement derived from ignorance. We are way too closed minded… We all have our opinions and I respect that but sometimes it’s best if we say don’t say anything at all.

I always try to support local, but this makes it very difficult to do so. R rated kindergarden lyrics don’t don’t even seem to come naturally to them. Sad thing is that it’s evident that there’s talent there, but it’s gone in no good direction. It’s tacky with childish lyrics and voice correction till you don’t even know what they really sound like.
Good quality video though. I can see we’re heading somewhere with our quality of video, but we need to work on story lines and audio.

I live in the UK & I also have a lot of family that live in the USA (born and raised), and let me tell you the truth, some people in the UK & USA and other countries might like the SONG, but people including myself HATE and can’t understand why a lot of Dominicans that make music put on an American accent, it doesn’t sound cool, it doesn’t even sound nice at all, it just sounds fake. I was born in the UK, have family that were born in the USA & we always say “I wish I had a Caribbran accent!”, why? Because they’re beautiful! So why do some Dominican artists feel the need to sound like some artificial American for?

When we go to parties and gatherings etc, we listen to Dancehall, Zouk, Reggae, Soca, Calypso etc. All the songs have the artists singing in their accent, even the really successful international artists, so why can’t Dominica do the same? When a song comes up, we can hear and tell whether the person’s Jamaican, Trinidadian, Barbadian etc, some Dominicans however.. Fake American, even the way some of them dress. I really rate the artists that don’t put on a accent really really highly. Everywhere I go such as parties, or even just walking down the road and someone’s blasting their car radio, I always hear Jamaicans, Trinidadians, Bajans, some Vincy’s, Grenadians, etc etc, and people say why can’t Dominica’s music be as popular, but how can DOMINICAN music be popular if they’re sounding AMERICAN? Does that even make any sense? Surely if people wanted to hear American sounding people, they’ll listen to American artists?

The same goes for the beauty pageant contestants, I find them extremely beautiful, especially Leslassa, one of the most beautiful ladies I ever laid my eyes on, in fact she probably IS the most beautiful lady I ever laid my eyes on, but I don’t understand why they talk in an American accent. But either way, I still find her beautiful regardless.

People can say I’m hating as much as they want, but it doesn’t take away the fake that I’m right :).

    • anonymous
      August 23, 2013

Do you have a problem with Americans? Leave these artists alone. Their vision is much wider than the Dominican audience. Their type of music is to target and reach out to the entire world. I may be wrong but if I were to do an album like this to reach out to Dominicans only, maybe I might not make it big because the population of Dominica is too small.

almost everything we do in life is adaptive.U can hate all u want on the artists for rapping in an accent that is not Dominican..thats your choice.some people have no problem with it(like myself) and some people like u do have a problem with it.The artists have the freedom to do what ever type of music they like. Alot of Dominican artists do dancehall and they sound like the jamaicans. That doesn’t mean they want to be jamaican..the fact is every genre of music sounds good only when said and articulated in specific ways.Would u love to hear it if our rappers sang in the Dominican accent?im sure u would have a similar hating comment just like this one u made.I’m almost certain you would say it sounds odd if they did.

You went too far when u touched on the way people dress though lol smh.Everything we do in life is adaptive. How do you dress may I ask? How do you want people from Dominica to dress,in Dominican? cuz if that’s the case we would all have to wear our creole wear 24 hours 7 days a week. I’m sure your dressing style derived from a culture which is NOT Dominican..

Dominican767 are u kidding me… you people are so ridiculous its funny……. Jamaica is known for reggae and dance-hall and obviously that cannot be done in any other accent but a Jamaican accent, Trinidad is known for soca which can be done in any Caribbean accent, but hip-hop and R&B are known to b done in an american accent, even so when a British artiste sings R&B or Hip-Hop you cant even clearly distinguish whether its a British artiste or american artiste. Do You know how dumb it would sound to hear an american artist sing a soca or dance-hall in an american accent smh lol or a British artist singing dance-hall in his/her British accent… Anyway my point to u is these are R&B/hip-hop artiste so u don’t expect them to sing that kind of music in a Dominican accent …. So here’s my advice to you, when u wanna listening to songs with ur so loved Dominican accent there’s : tripple K for Bouyour, Ophelia for Creole songs, Daddy Chess for soca and Dice for Calypso, with this list u cant go wrong……. Big up to all R&B/Hip-hop artist whether in the Caribbean or international!!!!!

I guess a lot of people seem to be taking this as negativity, but, if they sit and think about it, or if they travel and stay out of Dominica for a while, they will soon realize what you’re speaking about. There is a serge of young, up and coming artists today that don’t give that original Dominican feeling. We’re adopting too many of other people’s cultures. All the slangs, dressing, attitudes and expectations seem to be as seen on TV. It gets to the point where, like the before mentioned said, it just seems fake.
Is there no one that can make us proud with the Dominican feeling? Do we have to sound like someone else to be recognized as attention worthy? What is the original Dominican sound or vibe?
We don’t have to go all the way back to our fore-fathers, but even with a modern feeling we should still be able to be able to get the hint of Dominican in what ever we produce and share.
Let’s be an original, not at best a carbon copy.

        August 24, 2013

U guys make NO SENSE..Im sure if these guys made a hip hop or r&b song in the Dominican accent you all would still have a problem because to tell u the plain truth it would sound STUPID….rap and r&b is meant to sound a certain way.all these comments about lack of originality and trying to be American is very ignorant and naive smh.
You guys even blasting the guys dressing haha.None of us dress Dominican except on Creole Day!!!! U say that they dress like people on tv..how do you dress???? I am most certain that your dressing style derived from something you saw somewhere, unless you where your national wear everyday, because that’s the only form of dressing that is derived from Dominica..any other fashion style is adopted from other cultures. So many things we do on a daily are things influences by other cultures,I can go on and on naming them…yet y’all choose to focus on one of the many and hate on these young men for doing it…smh

      August 24, 2013

I am an A/R for a major label in the UK..I wont mention which company. I stumbled across this site and saw this music video. Word of advice to all upcoming artists in the Caribbean. I personally would not sign something like this as it lacks depth and originality. When you hear a big tune it stands out instantly. All creativity is great stuff..but ask yourself this question, where would you sell over 50-100,000 units of a song like this, who would you market the song too, what network around the world would take this video..certainly MTV would not even look at it gentlemen as it there is videos on MTV which has massive budgets which would make this video look silly sorry to say. Dominica is 20 if not 30 years behind in the music and film industry by what I have been seeing. You just dont have anything that is marketable coming out of Dominica. In saying that you have to start from somewhere so keep it up and keep growing, hopefully one day somebody will create an international hit song and that takes a lot. If you also notice, Caribbean people dont hardly buy records or films unless pirated..this is why companies like us dont give or really care as the market is not there, hence why your local artists are struggling. Hope my point will be taken constructively and its not in anyway to offend.

      August 24, 2013

your comment makes no sense. Its hiphop you idiot…Hiphop has a certain flow…so naturaly they must hv the accent.I will admit their flow needs some work. But if u take an American and put them to sing dancehall in an American accent, it wont sound right, cus it has to be done in the Jamaican accent, jus like soca, in trini accent…so singing hiphop in an Dominica accent will just sound like crap. Looks at Rhianna! Do you normaly hear her bajan accent when she sings?? most of us even forget she’s from Barbados. I say hats off to those guys for trying something, what are you doing? So i would like to believe that since you live in a first world country, you have a first world brain….so use your first world brain and think before you speak.

I just couldnt get pass the men licking their lips or whatever it is they are doing with their lips.

the first girl keep looking at the screen and i’m not sure if her eyes are bulging.

And the make up on the one with the pink and white dress – the blush was off (but that’s just nit picking from someone who analiyses videos.

Keep doing videos… they can only get better

Dcan2DBONE…..maybe you should be in the video yourself or better yet sponsor your money and contract a multi million dollar company to do the directing, make up and wardrobe….or maybe you should advise on some ugly girls and use camera tricks to change their physical features to look like what you would like to see…..nit pick still…if u were so perfect and know what to do and what it should look like then maybe you should study videography, film directing and make up artistry so that you could provide your services to the audio visual community in dominica and contribute to their development so videos can reach BET level.

DNO YOU DELETE MY COMMENT…lol…Dcan2DBONE unless you are a film director yourself and could offer your editing skills to these folks you should keep your comments in your head.

nothing bad,i just mean that when you hear any caribbean artist, we as caribbean people can guess which island the artist is from but with these guys, as talented and good as they are, there is no way i would know they were dominican unless i was told, and as a proud dominican that just makes me feel a little sad but no big scene, the song and video is good ,i enjoyed it,

Ok, I got you. Thanks for responding. I had the same thought as you. Unless told one wouldn’t know these are my fellow Dominicans. I did enjoy it as well though. One Love.
