The cream of the crop in the calypso arena in Dominica has been selected to perform on the stage of 18th edition of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) carded for October 24-26th at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

Marketing executive for the WCMF, Leroy Wadix Charles, said these calypsonians will be treating patrons to the road march hits from yesteryear to now.

“We are pleased to announce the calypso component for this year’s festival,” he said on Tuesday.

Those confirmed for performing are King Dice, Scrunter, Daddy Chess, and the Webb.

“And what they will be actually doing or singing are road march hits from the 1960’s until the present,” he stated. “So they will be taking care of the calypso component at the WCMF.”

Charles noted that in general the festival is “shaping up” and final preparations are being made to release the name of the final act from the Caribbean, who he said is expected to attract younger patrons.

He stated organizers are not quite ready to release the name of the act.

“We are not quite ready to do so,” he said. “So hopefully by the next press conference we will do so.”

He also informed that the WCMF’s marketing team will return to Martinique where a “very stringent line up of activities” is planned and talks are expected to resume with travel agents and the media.

Meantime, events assistant at the Dominica Festivals Committee, Marva Williams, said that although the hype may not be as high as expected for the festival, patrons are taking advantage of the EC$200 ticket special, which is on for the month of September.

“Maybe it is not as hyped as we expected in Dominica, but the fact that persons are coming in to purchase their tickets every day at EC$ 200 means that the people are knowledgeable about the festival,” she said.

She stated that the ticket special is only for Dominicans, who make up the majority at the three-night festival.

The first Festival Dwivay, to promote the WCMF, is carded for the Krazy Kokonuts on September 26th and will feature Triple K Global and Xtasy Band.

Yes please. De Ency, Rabbit, Hurricane, Wizard, Solo, Tronada, Ventura, Robin and someone to perform some of the favourites of the Mighty Spider and Brakes (i.e. if Father John is not allowed to sing). If only they could come and perform the crowd favourites, I guarantee WCMF organizers will not have enough space for the patrons. Can anyone imagine what a night this would be? And to top it off, the Swinging Stars could perform a few of the old time tunes. My goodness! This would be certainly the Best of the Best ever! Please WCMF organizers. This was suggested before when you requested ideas from the WCMF supporters.

Nothing happening with that below mediocre attempt in event planning.. So many different creole cultures from across the Caribbean basin and we yet to hear a Samba from Brazil, Cumbia from Colombia, Brukdown and Punta Rock from Belize, Kaseko from Suriname, and aléké, bigi pokoe, and bushee negro music from French Guiana, Rumba and indigenous calypso from Costa Rica just to get us started as to see how BIG we can make this festival. The one and only Authentic World Creole Music Festival. And while we on Haiti, why haven’t we seen the likes of groups who do exclusive Kontradans, Rara, Twoubadou, Mini-jazz and Mizik rasin. Compas is just one WCMF, just one of many. A group like Boukman Eksperyans comes to mind.

Is his stage name ‘Dice’ or ‘King Dice’? cus if alu just calling him that because he’s won before, then in that case it should be ‘King Daddy Chess’, and ‘King Scrunter’.

His stage name is ‘King Dice”. His official title when he wins the calypso crown is “Calypso Monarch King Dice”. People are just lazy and call all monarchs “king” instead of the actual title

Calypsonians chosen will be singing road march hits from 60’s to present? Which foreign artists are told what to sing in their performance on WCMF stage?

What I hearing there, nuh from the DFC/Wadix?

So our top class, six-time calypso King cannot evn sing what he would like to? Not even his best songs over the years, including 2014 song that won him the crown again?

Is that our top calypso artists worth? To be asked to sing only Road March songs in 2014 WCMF? Is that 19th. century strategy allowing the calypsonians or artists from expressing himself freely, singing the songs of his preferred choice?

Why can’t King DICE allowed to sing “Time for CHANGE” or the song he really wish to perform? Why can’t De Webb sing “Passport sales. for example?” Do the lyrics of some of the Calypsos trouble many?

People need to know what they are paying for or buying . Come on it is 18 years now better need to be done. What you guys need some one with a degree to do that too ?

Wadixs nice move to implement a calypso component of 4 decades of road march hits at WCMF but instead of King Dice, Scrunter, Daddy Chess, and the Webb plagiarizing people music wouldn’t it be better to have some those greats singing their own song especially if they are alive. After all this is the least we can do honor them. Super L fight dem, Masa Day is Don….. Think before you answer..
