A locally produced movie –It Only Takes One – will be launched here soon.
Written by Gloria Septra Augustus, the film stars students from the Joint Secondary Schools Drama club and is directed by Chief Cultural Advisor Alwyn Bully.
The movie, which was shot at different venues on the island in December 2009, features the talent of eight lead actors which include female calypsonian Marja “Lady Star” Jeffers.
According to Augustus, who spoke to Dominica News Online, the movie was first brought to the public in the form of theatrical play last year but had now been made into a movie.
According to her, the film centers on the issue of HIV/AIDS promoting the reduction of the disease. She said that the play was done in collaboration with the National HIV/AIDS Response Programme.
She told DNO that the film also highlights issues of sexual abuse of minors along with the sexually transmitted disease.
According to Augustus, the film portrays a “slice of the constraints faced by the single female headed households in raising their children, particularly with regard to guidance given and support for their children.
Augustus said that the film is expected to be launched within within the next couple months.

Congrats Gloria. Our Dominica people really have talents. We must commend people like Steve and Alex and others who have been toiling to get funding for their projects. There are other movies already filmed waiting to be produced. I also understood there is a DVD soon to be released. Keep up the good work Dominican brothers and sisters.
Congratulations Gloria. I hope corporate will open their eyes to new things such as your initiate and give you the necessary financial support. I hope that government too, will come on board. Our people like drama and have photographic memory. There is nothing better than getting to people in a way that they can identify with. Some of the students too are less academically inclined and drama is an excellent means for them to bring out themselves I am so proud of your achievements that I am even lost for words.
You go girl! I see Mr. Bully one of your greatest mentors strongly behind you. Dominica is blest to have assets like you all.
