Local Reggae artiste, Devine Songz, is presently in Jamaica promoting his single ‘Many Rivers Remix’ featuring internationally acclaimed Jamaican Reggae star, Gramps Morgan of ‘Morgan Heritage’.
Apart from promoting the song, Devine, whose real name is Julie Christmas, told Dominica News Online that the purpose of his Jamaica visit is to introduce himself to a bigger market and to represent Dominica and to “show them that we have good quality Reggae music in Dominica.”
Earlier this week the artiste headlined at his first major performance at the ‘Triple Century’ owned by West Indies Cricketer, Chris Gayle.
He described his experience in Jamaica thus far as a “great” one.
“The people, I thought they would have been more reserved to a foreigner doing Reggae but honestly everybody loved the music,” he said. “I think it’s more about talent and not about where you’re from when it comes to the music.”
He said his aim is “to do for Dominica what Bob Marley has done for Jamaica.”
Devine noted that although Gramps Morgan is not in Jamaica at this time, since he is touring, he has been assisting in promoting the song in the United States and video for the song has been a hit on social media.
He indicated that plans are in place to shoot different scenes in Jamaica for one of his singles, “Ready or Not” which features DaneJah Dane and Asher Thomas. Some of the scenes will also be shot in Dominica.
“We are going to get both the Jamaican culture and the Dominican culture in one video,” Devine explained.
Meantime, Devine’s promoter, Dane ‘Danejah Dane’ Smalling, told DNO that his sole goal is to ensure that Dominica is recognized musically,
“Dominica has talent,” he stated.
He said the response to Devine Songz has been great in Jamaica.
“So far the response has been great and Devine is on par with the top names in Jamaica…” he remarked.
CDs are being distributed in Jamaica as part of the promotion and next week the two are expected to depart for Barbados to continue promoting the song.
