Machel Montano guilty on five criminal charges

Machel Montano

TRINIDAD -Soca star Machel Montano was this morning found guilty of five criminal offences.

Montano, the reigning Power Soca Monarch and Road March king, along with Kernel Roberts, the son of legendary Calypso icon Lord Kitchener, Joel “Zan” Feveck, a member of Montano HD Family, and Rodney “Benjai” LeBlanc, best known for his patriotic song, Trini, were all charged with a series of criminal offences arising out a fracas outside the Zen nightclub, in Port of Spain in April 2007.

After postponing her decision on two consecutive occasions, Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor, presiding in the Port of Spain Magistrates Court, delivered her decision to a packed courtroom this morning.

I am a bit surprise that no one has commented on what the actual criminal charges are. “using obscene language (2 counts) and 3 counts of assault”. So let me get this straight…I am in a fight (not that is OK to fight), but I should use clean language. “OK now I am going to kick your pretty bum-bum.”

No wonder the magistrate keeps putting this off. It is a waste of her time to deal with these petty charges. If it were not for his fame do you think he would even be arrested for these offenses?

By the way is using obscene language a crime in Dominica. I want to know.

It’s the mentality of law officials like this Magistrate who put doubt on the effectiveness and ‘justice is blind’ approach for the CCJ. 5 years??!! and still postponing to 2013?? If they were on death row, their sentences would be commuted to life. Perhaps we should squash the case? Talk about justice seriously delayed and all due to the Magistrate’s whims…

I ‘m sure Montano much be wishing that had been dealt with years ago, we would have forgotten by now..
There goes another example of what the CCJ and justice may look like, if a Magistrate in a lower court is afraid to find a local celebrity guilty on a relatively minor charge. Much less if it were a smaller island or murder…

The motto of the CCJ is:’Your people, your region, your court’… hmm. we should add: ‘justice on my clock..’… Makes you wonder how Judges are going to rule in some cases. Oh my… are we ready for CCJ?

hahaha… Them Trini have kicks just like us Dominicans. One person said, “GOOD JOB???? REALLY???? After 5yrs we have now arrived at a verdict and she still postponed the sentencing to January 12th (one month away).

That really does not sound good to me.
In the mean time Mr. Fete will be feting it up for Carnival.
Oh, I wonder what happens to his “Cultural Ambassador” status now!” Countryboy01V2

      December 10, 2012

A lot of the negative comments are from opposition supporters who envy machelle montano. i do not condone breaking the law in any form but which one of us lives in a glass house. all our cups are tainted with red stains…

We accuse of others of corruption but when ask to represent we turn out to be more corrupt that those we replaced…

Machelle like each of us is no saint, i think he recognized his mistakes and have moved… we should do the same like him…

Despite everything I suppport Machelle Montano and the People’s Partnership led by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar… GOD Bless Trinidad and Tobago
