Bwa Bwa band

Dominica’s 2012 Carnival Programme will be officially opened today with a parade through the streets of Roseau.

The event can be seen live on Dominica News Online (DNO) as collaboration with Come See TV continues.

Coverage will be offered at a reduced fee of US$3.99.

The opening parade kicks off at 3: 00 p.m. from Victoria Street in Roseau and will move along the Roseau Bayfront right through to Carnival City at Pottersville Savannah.

The parade is expected to highlight a range of advertising floats, costume bands, traditional masquerade groups, the color and splendor of Dominica’s carnival.

It will end at Carnival City for an evening of speeches and entertainment that will herald the start of the season in Dominica.

The official programme includes speeches by Ministers of Government and the Mayor of Roseau, as well as officials from the Dominica Festivals Committee and Headline sponsor, LIME.

DNO viewers will be able to watch the street parade and official opening ceremony of Carnival 2012 from vantage points in Roseau and the Pottersville Savannah.

A full programme of the event can be seen below.

but aalu dominicans not easy. alklu want dca to move forward but ur comments will keep us back everytime. allu want everything for FREE. what about the person who bought the equipment to capture those moments, pay the licence to carry it, make the time to make a deal with DNO to carry it LIVE so the persons who would love to see the parades and shows from the comforts of their homes and those overseas who would love to see some dominican shows.awah man at least someone trying to do something. sponsors, DFC had to beg ppl to help the queens, sponsorship does not come easy. its a new thing so allu fraid as usual. well i have been watching calypso since krazy kokonut and i am not disappointed with what i have see, as usual internet is not perfect in dca, we all complain at our jobs and homes so it is the same thing for live streaming. congrats comeseetv and DNO

just an observaton. W etalk so much of cleanness. do you think the queens and pageants should stay on a vehicle and send things to eat in the croud on the ground? Someone may have just spit on the groung, am animal may have just popooo on the ground and ou send the sweet, or lollipop and it fall in it. put 2-3 sweets in a plastic bag, tie the bag and send it. STOP THE NONESENCE. The onlookers are not dogs.

They certainly act like dogs, rushing to pick up goodies and even snatching them out of others’ hands sometimes and complaining if they are not satisfied with what they get. Dominicans just love to beg. If I were a queen contestant I certainly wouldn’t be handing anything to anyone except the kids because someone might just snatch off my hand. Sadly, it’s the adults who act that way!

Web streaming is not cheap!! DNO are providing a service its like anything else, you pay for quality.

Keep this in mind someone has to record, equipment has to be used streaming also, all these factors included costs. Not to mention the specialists needed to resample the signal to stop any hackers etc and the improvements needed for a better service next time. Lets think bigger my people help DA move on.

If paying for a service like this causes you pain then simply dont use it but then when you dont see the action please dont sit back and say “boy dem people hopeless weeee”

lol that’s why with all the money they got from the stream the stream was buffering every 2 seconds.. it was pointless.

What the ppl are saying is true no other island does this.

If they got sponsors they would get payed even more for their time and work. You don’t read much.

        Snowie..

I am a Media Producer myself and thats why I bypast all the statements made and went straight to the facts, hence your statement “You don’t read much”.

Finding sponsors first needs to show that the venture has a market, and to prove there is a market you firstly need to execute it properly. Once this is done they can progress. Initially these things cost and the problem is when its free, its not appreciated anyway.

Question: what is your location, if you are in somewhere like US or UK, the cost to you is minimal, maybe if in DA the cost can be priced in EC to make things more affordable but better execution which means better equiptment and professionals costs.. Hence and initial cost!!

“You don’t look at the bigger picture do you”

I’m not DNO new owner biggest supporter because they take alot of time to okay people comments and plus they usually censor some posters and delay posting of some comments. This is not right at all.

BUT, Dominicans all you too like freeness. I’m not sure whether its a black man or white running this business bbut the point is its Dominican. This is how these people generate money. Do you think cbs makes money from reporting news and covering St.Patricks day etc? People pay for their companies and social events to be shown on cbs, nbc etc. In Dominica doesn’t have that type of cooperate pull so the owners of DNO must charge a fee to the viewers. Stop being so greedy then all you will complain that DNO “koo-lay” when it close down. This is why so many small businesses in Roseau does shut down before they even open. Too much freeness. The funny thing is all of all you will go and buy $3000 iphone and $400 blackberry, ipad and fake nails but a little thing all you don’t want to pay for.

    smh

DNO back to you. I believe its important to censor some comments and do what all you need to do to protect yourselves, but it needs to be done in a timely manner because I see people getting posted before me when I posted my comment a day and a half ago.

Its not the matter of freeness friend. Trust me if i was interested in watching it i would pay if it was worth the money n time. Reason I am saying this is the link to promoting what we have to the world. Other islands not CBS stream their carnival and shows to off island ip addresses for free. Knowing this is promotion. I know ppl have to eat eh. That’s why I said they should get sponsors and slap adds on now n then. Imagine ppl retweeting the links to the stream or having it on facebook. Many ppl would tune in. PROMOTION!!! See that’s thinking outside the box. I never seen sxm / St.Lu / Vincy land / Trinidad / Barbados nor Antigua charge a fee.. That is laughable.

I suggest to the ppl responsible of the streams to use ustream or justin.tv for streaming rather than that low quality service they had. The buffer on these streaming sites can accommodate thousands on one stream.

      Just a thought for y’all

The opening if carnival 2012 was weak and boring. the entrance fee was too expensive and theperformances were weak. Why would the director expect patrons to poay $10.00 a show of such low standard? i am sooooooooooo disappointed.

      January 29, 2012

PLEASE,…..YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. $10.00 IS NO MONEY!!!

Ok admin , what link you talking about on the home page

ADMIN: What we meant was that if you clicked on the home page headline ‘Watch the opening of carnival 2012 now!’, it should have brought you to the subscription page where you could then gain access to the live streaming.

    January 28, 2012

ok DNO, this isn’t working too well. We expect quality when we pay. The quality is the same as free. If you are going to charge us we demand better service beacsue i know many people are logged on which you expected. Do something about the bandwidth or whatever to accommodate the traffic. Ilm really mad now…..

ADMIN: Point taken. This may not be an excuse but unfortunately, DNO does not have control over the quality as we are a “secondary” promoter. As such, we relay what we receive from the live streamer. Also, as secondary promoters we are not responsible for setting the fees for the carnival projects that have been done so far. However, we will take your concerns to the other parties involved.

I cant understand. it the opening of carnival and not a banner that is hung outthere signifying the occassion. carnival routes are not decorated. well it seem to me that we dont have a comittee to head the carnival or is that things just gone low.

  22. MAMPEE BATTY RYDER
    January 28, 2012

Once again Dominica fail to see how promoting your carnival via the internet FREE would benefit. Why would any other person pay when they can watch TNT carnival for free? This is the only island I see that pay to watch shows and carnival online lol. It’s that hard to get sponsors? Just get sponsors and run ads. Greedy Coshon
