Michelle Joseph – new contestant for Miss Dominica 2011 pageant

Former Miss Teen Dominica Michelle Joseph is the seventh and final contestant confirmed for the Miss Dominica pageant 2011.
The Dominica Festivals Committee through the Queen Show Committee had initially selected seven young ladies for the pageant, but was forced to seek two replacements following the decision to dismiss one contestant and another’s decision to withdraw. Erlene Labassiere was selected to fill the first void following which six young ladies signed their contracts last week. However, still one contestant short, Chairperson of the Queen Show Committee Romualda Hyacinth noted the need to find a seventh contestant.
Michelle Joseph answered the call from the Queen Show Committee Chair and came forward to offer herself as the seventh contestant. She was interviewed on Thursday last week by the panel which comprises DFC, CDC and Queen Show Committee Members and Miss Joseph met the criteria to enter the pageant.
Natalie Clarke, DFC Events Director says, “We are very happy to announce Miss Michelle Joseph, hailing from Morne Bruce, Roseau, as our seventh island girl rising to the challenge to compete for the coveted prize of becoming Dominica’s next Cultural ambassador.”
Michelle who is only eighteen years old, is no stranger to pageantry carrying the title of Miss Noelle 2006, Miss Teen Dominica 2007, and Miss Dominica State College 2010. Miss Joseph is at present a second year student at Dominica State College in the Architectural Design Department. She is also a second soprano in the Sisserou Singers chorale.
The National Carnival Queen Show Committee started their schedule of activities and rigorous training of the young ladies from December 1 and will continue right through the holiday season getting the seven contestants prepared to give the general public a great performance on Friday March 4th, 2011.

good luck to all the young ladies i have look at all the contestants and i strong believe the Mitchel Joseph will be miss Dominica age is just a number.and for person who say that she is still at school ,do they look at miss Teen USA and Miss USA /Miss Universe they all at Universities .it will b e nice to have a queen with a fresh brains still at college.Talent .intelligence beauty/ you got it all.i can see you at the Miss Jayces’s when Marcia will be handing over the 2011 title to you,also in Tortola she will hand it over to you. Dominicans, reduce your negative comments and thoughts!! Though she is only eighteen, she is capable of doing great, and even winning the crown, as does every other contestants on the stage. Let us all be reminded that Miss World 2010 is only eighteen also, so age is not an issue!! She should be commended for having the courage of going up at so much of a young age, and not be discouraged because of it. She decided to enter because she believes she can do it, and for her age, I would say that she is a very well-rounded and mature young lady, and if her age was not mentioned, many of us would not know that she is only eighteen.
Young lady I commend you for entering the competition, and I am proud that you have the courage to enter so young! Give them a show that they will never forget!!! And prove to them that age is simply just a number!!

The age criteria to register for the queen show is 18-25. It does not matter whether she turned 18 last year or last week . What matters is that when she registered last week thursday she was 18 years old. Hence, she has met the criteria. Everyone is different in their own way and everone knows what they are capable of. Since, she decided to register now, that means that she thinks she ready.
Exactly!!! And that is the exact same reason why none of them should judge her because of her age!!

I believe that Michelle should wait another year. she has just turned 18 three weeks ago and would not have qualified to register for the competition this year in first place if she were to register when it was called. I think she should concentrate this year on her college and next year do it.
i am biased though. I think Earlene Labassiere is a good contendor for the pageant. she is also very talented and sings very well I heard her in st cecilia choir fectival doing a solo, she is tall and beautiful.
It does not matter whether she turned eighteen three weeks ago or yesterday!!! The point is she is in, and she deserves a fair chance, and to be treated like everyone else!!! And for her age, you WILL be surprised what she can do!!
@ concerned….you do have a very strong point there.if michelle registered for the competition when it was called she wouldnt have met the criteria.the only reason she is in it is because a young lady withdrawn from the competition.

Cudos to you, young lady, to wanting to become an ambassador. However i believe you could’ve reconsidered the timing. for starters you are only 18, and you have alot of time still; then you are still currently enrolled in college – wouldn’t that disrupt your studies at this critical point?!

Age has absolutely NOTHING to do with the matter. There have been previous contestants who have taken part in pageantry and they were involved in their school work. She is a focused young woman who knows exactly what she is about.
My dear, i know you support your sister’s decision. However, why hadn’t she come forth from the get-go when all the other young ladies were being asked? Infact age has alot to do with some things! Like i said i know that this pageant allows you sufficient time. You can be from age 18 to 25! She recently turned 18(if i’m not mistaken), so my advice would be to wait at least another year!!

@ sami…..we are not being negative.the point is why didnt she come forth when all the other young ladies came forth.why she didnt apply since october so she could be on the stage for creole in the park or the world creole music festival.
she couldnt have come forth because she was too young then.she wasnt 18 yrs as yet.so if it wasnt for the last young lady that with drawn from the competition she wouldnt be there!!!
anyways you and earlene have plenty competition.not because allu are no stranger to the stage allu will win the crown.is not your outer apperance that determining who becoming the queen either.is what you bring on the night of the show and rosillia doesnt joke remember that!!!

He simply brought the attention to Michael, that Michele would need an address or something like that, to contact him in New York, if she considered his offer to design her gown. Michael might have forgotten to do that, which is why he responded with the information. So why do you say MOTS is sick about that?
