VIDEO: Teens release music video on cyber bullying

Students of the St. Maarten Academy released a music video focusing on the issue of cyber bullying. The song features up and coming rap duo Bar$ and Flow$ (Miguel York in black hoodie) and Vershawn Nelson (red hoodie) and vocalist Jazzy (Giselle Winfield).

Done as part of the St. Martin Sunrise Rotary Club’s initiative to shed light on pertinent social issues, the video portrays the life of a young girl who becomes a victim of cyber bullying after an intimate picture that she sent to her boyfriend goes viral.

It explores the emotional turmoil and isolation that she experiences, the berating comments that she receives and how it drives her to the edge of suicide. However, she is able to overcome the incident, by focusing on the positive aspects of her life, and in so doing, finds herself again.

St. Maarten Academy students deserve credit for producing this very powerful video.

This is what the creative arts are all about: getting a message across in whichever form works best. True artists are the movers and shakers in this world. Sometimes the message is controversial. The North East Comprehensive school students recently released an equally powerful video about the neglect of their playing field. They too deserve credit.

It takes courage to be creative. By its very nature creativity is something different to what has gone before. But art has universal appeal. My on-line diary pages are are followed by thousands of artists and art students in over fifty countries. You’ll find the link in my current DNO Commentary: “Putting Art in Schools”.

Dominican students have an advantage over all other countries in that I am right here on their doorstep and I welcome group visits from secondary schools.

Shameless plug of your website Roger!

Just congratulate the kids and move on! Big man like you then! Stupes!

        Dear Amarossa,

If you read my comment more carefully, you will realise that the reference to my on-line diary pages is not so much a plug for my blog, but to inform Dominican students that they have an advantage over other other countries in that they are welcome to visit my studio.

Incidentally, all art students world wide have free access to my blog. If I am perceived as “promoting” it is for furthering their studies and not for financial gain.

I extend the same welcome to all Dominican residents and I look forward to your visit.
