Mwanga remembered with music video (SEE VIDEO)

In tribute to a “fallen soldier and lifelong friend”, local artist Smokie Cut has compiled a musical production in memory of the late Omara Small, popularly known as Mwanga aka the Honorable, who was gunned down execution style on High Street Roseau on September 15, 2010.

The official music video, It Hurts Me,  is expected to be launched in a few days.

Smokie Cut says he has been a close friend of Freeman for “as long as I’ve known myself; about 25 years.”

He said he was not with his friend when he lost his life, but arrived on the scene a few minutes after the incident occurred.

The lyrics of the song, for which a video is being fine-tuned, speaks of the life, accomplishments and struggles of Mwanga.

It shows also a photography slideshow of Mwanga’s life and adventures.

@Disappointed: i so agree with u…just imagine how unfair life can be…i remember clearly this police officer in my village some ten years ago who killed a young man who wasn’t even thirty years, no children and he’s still an officer….everybody knew it was him who killed the dude…but when i walk down town i seeing him well dressed….violence must come to an end….its sad that murders go free so often in DA….we need to let justice prevail…we need a hotline and people need to stand up for what’s right….too many young children grow up in a single parent home and then because of violence, murders and all the other crimes…lets stand for what’s right

Let me share my piece, that is a lovely song, listen to the words. Understand that this man had a family. His eldest daugther is going to college, no matter what he did that was his life but he wanted the best for alot of ppl.

Everyone talking about Ossie’s death, Mwanga lawyers represented him, the privy council saw no right to re-open the case, no facts, so they set the young man free. he can from jail and made a difference. No matter what he did, it did help shape some ppl lives. Mwanga was paying social security wi. What all u know. cause he didn’t dress in jacket and tie. Stop being bias let smokey dedicate his song to his partner. All of all u that talking this negative shit, listen to the song, then all u want to talk about who it should be dedicated to….

MWANGA, WAWA, DE DREAD, you will be remembered by those you have made a difference in their lives, the rest you’ll don’t know half of the story so plz, refrain from making those silly comments. He wasn’t no saint but God damn it, i know he read the bible, it is what made him raise on his feet again. Don’t come telling me about everyone reading there bibles cause there are some of you’ll that own one and has never opened it.

There is a famous saying AT THE END OF THE DAY EACH MAN TO HIS ORDER. Right now is Mwanga and God. U’ll can post all comments all u want, he will be JUDGED BY GOD NOT MAN.

christianity you preach at church yet hatred is in your hearts.

i am sure you are jealous and envious of the next person and wish you were someone else this is murder intent.

SMOKIE I DECIDED TO LISTEN TO THE SONG BUT YES YOU GOT TALENT, REAL TALENT, SO WHY DONT YOU USE IT FOR SOME GOOD….. OMARA is gone, like may before him and like all of we. Move on.
Use your talent boy, why dont you make the theme song for worlds aids day coming up in december, I think, promoting absteinance, condom use, one partner, safe sex, being tested etc, the youth will listen to you
and then you can do another one for drug awareness month, and then you can do my song when i die…u get me, use your talent for some good.

And corrections 1) the whole world isnt crying well maybe tears of joy and relief
    2) how did he go from scratch to the top legally in a short space of time?……….what exactly are you telling us the youths!???????!!!!!!!

WE ARE THE ONE WHO NEED THE TRIBUTE

    (Serious Times By Gyptian)

    So I say
    These are some serious times
All I can see around us is just violence and crime
Full time for us to centralize, socialize and realize
To let the sun shine throughout everyday
Let the moon shine through the peaceful night
This Seven time rise, seven times fall
But I don’t really believe in those falling things at all
Cauz life continues as it goes
If you really want to know the truth
The truth is in being told

    (Repeat) Chorus

Some time I think it’s peace and safety
It could be yah for sudden destruction
Seh yeh wake up dis morning, ya gotta give tunkz
Yeh don’t know if you’re gonna live to see tomorrow
Life is much more precious than gold
Yea yea, and if the truth hasn’t been told

So I say that these are some serious times
All I can see around us is just violence and crime
Full time for us to centralise, socialise and realise

See all the corner, watch how you a hang out pon the corner
A straight-time pharmacy agwann pon di corna
On di corna, the yutes dem really nah hold no water
A stray them go stray and left the border
Cauz a domino them say them gone, now they can play
And a car come in and shots start to spray
Only innocent life can get taken away

    Repeat Chorus

Some time I think it’s peace and safety
It could be yah for sudden destruction
Seh yeh wake up dis morning, yeh gotta give thanks
Yeh don’t know if you’re gonna live to see tomorrow
Life is much more precious than gold
Yea yea, and if the truth hasn’t been told

The man has talent but I cannot support the glorification of a man who destroyed the lives of so many to make a measly buck! Drugs is drugs and when you live by the gun you die by the gun as my mother says. What kind of message does this lend to the young impressionable minds of the young men in Dominica. I guess there is no falsity in the saying ‘get rich or die trying’. What is sad and disappointing is that another man that could have positively built the country was gunned down. Here’s to praying that his kids follow not in his footsteps but adopt a more righteous path….

It seems that Dominica’s that are the prosecutors for God. The would call themselves children of God and say with a clear conscience that it was justice that another man took the life of another. With all those that have so much to say about where his soul going to reach, and how a friend of his is so wrong for grieving for a friend , is those that have to ask what they going to say when judgement day reach. Because by no means whatever you feel about a person, justifies you to slander a man especially when is dead. What ever he did or did not do is a matter between him and his God.

It seems that all of you can do no wrong. Hypocrite Dominicans.

    October 7, 2010

As far as i can see – Dominicans seem to be united for once on here. The call is for the news clip to be removed simple because most see it as not fitting to be considered news. There are more news worthy items to be discussed. Why not promote the local youth who are achieving success through hard work.

The trend in the comments it’s not about the fact that a song was created – it is about the fact that it glorifies a lifestyle of someone who WAS NOT a role model, and definitely not a soldier…

I see writings about him “deh ya pon the wall” – what the hell does that mean – i know it’s a jamaican saying but i wonder if the person who wrote it knows what it means.

These youth of today want to glamorize and live the bad man lifestyle. I say GO TO JAMAICA .. if you want to be a DODUS or a real bad man…. don’t be spoiling up Dominica with your so called bad man ways. Go to a country where the real bad man lives.

I’m tired – we have NO GULLY, NO GAZA in Dominica….we do not tolerate ANY bad man attitude or ANY bad man mentality.

So mi say – when di yute dem and di pickney dem wah come chat like dem bad – tell dem fi gway with dem “p…yclat” self….cuz if them buck up pon di real badman, dem would a wish dem ah soldier fi tek him down.

hey, this song is a good song i digging it, but i should have discovered this song on you tube or facebook on one of my pardners page not on website that dominicans home and abroad come to look for serious news about dominica and suroundings. I am sure Mwanga was a good person to his freinds and he made alot of mistakes in his life that is not really my business because we should not judge him and think that he is a monster but i doh really need to be reading about that on a news website. Now if DNo had a column where they featured talent of the week like how there is photo of the day this would be greatly appreciated. The issue for me is not his character cause most of the people who post all the negative thing about live by gun and die by gun doing all kinds of evils in darkness, let god judge the man. I just think that DNO made a bad move of posting this here even if there reason was to see how we would comment.

Reading these comments – I think it funny that you Dominicans are the persons with the cleanest houses, backyards and associations. Not one of you are friends with someone OR cried for someone who did something bad in their lives. Let me pause and say that I do NOT know this man personally, but through “6 degrees of separation” (3 if you really want to be technical). Ever since he died, the flood gates opened about what he did, who he killed, who he didn’t kill etc. etc. I am NOT condoning what the man did, not condoning the lives he may have destroyed. What I don’t get is why you people can’t (a) let the man go (b) ACKNOWLEDGE that regardless of his ways he has FRIENDS and a FAMILY that lost one of theirs and (c) allow said friends and family to remember him – HOW THEY KNEW HIM.

IAt the end of the day he had a mother, he had a brother, he had a sister, he had kids. From the videO, he had friends. People have the right to express their grief. To YOUhe was one thing, to THEM he was another. RESPECT people’s views. You cannot tell his friends that they have no right to make the video, no right to be sad or angry over his loss because they do. They are not “idolozing a criminal”, they are paying tribute to their friend.

Trust and believe if any one of your friends, family member, cousin, uncle, neice, nephew, picked up the gun and shot someone today and years later they themself got shot, no one can tell you not to miss them or cry for them because they killed someone else. Again I stress that I am NOT condoning what this man did, I CANNOT judge the man because I am not God, I do not work off hearsay. What I am stessing is that like it or not, the man had people who for one reason or the other, through one connection or another that cared for him. And like any one who looses someone they miss him. Please just acknowledge that and MOVE ON.

Smokie, I do not know you, but by listening to your music I hear a lot of talent. You know the guy; you feel how you feel; that is O.K. Now, it is time to rally people to assist the police in bringing the criminals who took Mwanga’s life to justice. I would think that most of you in his camp would know who wanted him dead. It is your responsibility; that is if you were his true and honest friend to allow your allegiance to him convince you to aid in finding his killer.

I am disappointed in Dominicans who are promoting violence and crime in the lovely nature isle. This guy aka “Mwanga” was a criminal; he murdered my cousin 12 years ago and got away scott free now look at where his a… is. You live by the sword, die by the sword. My cousin left behind a 2 year old and an 11 yr daughter at the time of his death. His life was taken for no reason. People who are supporting this video need to put themselves in my family shoes and others whose lives were taken by Mwanga. How would you feel to know a man has taken the life of one of your family members and walked the streets of Dominica as a FREE man!!!! Tell me!!!! Dominicans need to wake up and stop encouraging foolishness, this man was no HERO, NO SOLDIER!!!!!

Smokie you have too much talent to be indulging in that kind of lyrical nonsense. You could have choosen lyrics that educated about staying away from volience and drugs because in the end it will catch up with you. Personally I think Mwanga death has sent out it’s own message positively .You could have made a very good Tribute to him without disrespect to him or anyone else if you had taken a litlle more time to think of the persons who would be listening to your song and are influence by it.Remember Mwanga can’t hear you it is us the young people who are listening and the unpredicted future if we don’t die out that will be making up your fan base. If all of us die out because we lived like the ‘honourable’ who would be listening to you ‘smokie’? Who Would Huh? Stay Positive.

i did not no this guy but from what i have heard he was more of a criminal than he was a goood citizen so the question i ask is this. are we now hailing criminals as true soliders and honorables ? what have this man accomplished? so are drug dealears and criminals the ones that our people though few of them want we and our children to look up to?
i agree with those who say that dno should remove this clip from the site. i am not saying that those that killed him we correct in their actions bcause they did not grant him life but the bible is not at fault when it declared that what soever a man sows that he will also reap and he who lives by the sword dies thereby.

DNO – I disagree with your decision to post this as news….” fallen soldier” – what? I strongly believe that unless it is updates on the case, this man should be left dead. Young people do not need to come to DNO to see a video of a man who has “accomplished” so much in terms of crime. He is not a role model figure and can’t be glorified or promoted in anyway.

Let his friends and family remember him how they want too – but it seems that most of the Dominica world considered him a criminal and criminals should know way be put in the spotlight like that.

I have not seen any videos of other artist shown on DNO. Those of us who want to see the video can go facebook or you tube.

Find issues with positive messages so that the youth of Dominica can be encouraged to do better – not to come on DNO and see videos of allledged criminal.

That’s just my opinion – you do not need to post it.

I very much agree with the person who said “you live by the gun, you die by the gun”. He had a choice to repent (change his old ways) after he got away with maybe two murders? He chose not to. No hard feelings.

If i didn’t know better i would swear that this dude was some person that our young kids looked up too or a person who played a significant part in promoting Dominica. Yeah he died in a miserable way and i pray that he rests in peace but to make videos and trying to promote it esp on a website people come on to read NEWS is so undiplomatic and disturbing…Stop trying to act like the young man was a savior, he destroyed so many people’s lives. I’m not going to judge bec i too have to answer for all my wrong doings but stop tryna make folks feel sorry for him. When u sell drugs to people guess what you are KILLING THEM SLOWING and God don’t like ugly. We need to learn from all these mistakes and educate our youths to make better choices not make it seem like the life this young lived was a fullfilling life. I want to read REAL IMPORTANT NEWS ON DNO not this crap…

No criminals has a part in Heaven you leave by the gun you perish by the gun the days of the wicked shall be shortened.thats just what that happened he was a soldier of crimes he shall not rest in peace there shall be no peace for the wicked says the Lord.his soul shall burn in hell and there he shall pay for his crimes. The rest of those drug dealers and gun slingers that remain remember that there is a way that seemeth right to a man but the end thereof is the way of death.and after death the Judgement.so repent or else you will endup the same way that DEVIL did.,

THOSE WHO LIVE BY THE SWORD MUST AND WILL PERISH BY THE SWORD. THIS VIDEO SHOULD BE DEDICATED TO THE FAMILIES OF THE PEOPLE WHOM HE MURDERED. THE PROCEEDS SHOULD ALSO GO TO THEM. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH PAIN AND SUFFERING THE FAMILY OF THOSE WHO HE MURDERED ARE GOING THROUGH? AND ALL YOU CAN DO IS TO MAKE A HERO OUT OF THIS ANIMAL? YOU ARE A SICK BASTARD, AND SHOULD CRAWL BACK UNDER THE ROCK THAT YOU LIVE IN. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT WHAT GOES AROUND ALWAYS COMES AROUND.

he was somebody’s son, somebody’s brother, a father etc, so plz keep the negative comments to yourself and respect the family of the deceased.
Only God can judge him now, not any one of us.

@Pumkin: You have a point but in defense to the video and in reference to what you said “The Man is Dead” why dont you look pass his death and see the talent that is being portrayed from a young local artist …….Nobody is a sait but that dont mean they dont have friends and people that care about them ..There is/was a clip on DBS radio wich said about us being able to agree to disagree and at the end move on”something to that effect” i wish we would look more deeply in that saying the country would move so much smoother….just my two cents

And we wonder why our young people in trouble, this is there hero? considered a soldier? called honourable, for killing someone in cold blood and when police come for him hiding under a bed. For “allegedly” selling drug to our youths? gunned down for supposedly cheating those he dealt with? It really have more crazy outside than inside.
