She is trying to make it a hat trick – Miss Dominica and Miss Caribbean World – Nadira Lando – is hoping she can add the title of Miss Carival Pageant to her conquests when she competes for that title in St Vincent on Friday.
Lando and her team left Dominica on Monday for the show which is expected to take place at Carnival City in Kingstown’s Victoria Park.
“I am full of confidence, a little bit nervous but full confident,” Lando said in an interview with DNO while in transit in Barbados.
She said that capturing the Miss Caribbean World crown in Tortola recently has added some pressure on her, but she knows she can do even better.
“I know all eyes are on me and the Miss Caribbean World crown is putting some pressure on me but it has also boosted my confidence – I am sure I can do better.”
Lando will be going up against nine other contestants in several categories including swim wear, talent, spectacular wear and the interview segment which carries the most points.
The other contestants are from Anguilla, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The show begins at 8:00 pm.
The current holder of the Miss Carival crown is Iantavian Queeley of St. Kitts.
Organizers of the pageant say some of its objectives include fostering greater linkages and bonds between the Caribbean islands, encouraging contestants, chaperones and patrons to go to St. Vincent and the Grenadines to showcase the beauty and diversity of Caribbean young women.
