The four teams participating in Dominica’s Nature Island Challenge 2.0 are off on the adventure.

Day one began on Segment 3 of the Waitukubuli National Trail in Bellevue Chopin.

In the first challenge of the day, the teams set up camp on the Bellevue Chopin playing field.

The second challenge stop was at the Giraudel Flower House where teams were to make a traditional Dominica breakfast; then it was down to the Morne Prosper Primary School to the third challenge where the teams planted trees with the students.

The race continued through the Sulphur River Trail at Wotten Waven to the playing field. The major challenge, which will end day one, takes racers down to the Soufriere Sulphur Springs where they will bike to Soufriere Bay, then row across the bay and back.

The Nature Island Challenge 2.0 officially began with a press conference on Monday April 7 where the four teams were introduced.

This year’s challenge includes two teams representing Trinidad & Tobago – Team Trinidad Red and Team Trinidad White, one team representing the USA – Team USA Blue, and one team representing Dominica – Team Dominica Green.

The event, dubbed NIC 2.0, is a high energy race along Dominica’s Waitukubuli National Trail and other eco tourism sites across the island continues until Friday April 11. Over the four days, the teams will traverse a marked course which includes mini challenges and photo challenges which team members must complete before moving on.
Each day’s race ends with a major challenge.

Team’s performances in the challenges are tabulated and the team with the highest score at the end of the week will be award prizes.

Discover Dominica Authority has partnered with 360 Media Ventures to film the event for a future television special to be aired on Universal Sports and Outside Television. The first Nature Island Challenge, held in May 2013, was featured on NBC’s World of Adventure Sports.

Nature Island Challenge 2.0 is presented by the Government of Dominica, Discover Dominica Authority with support from the Fort Young Hotel, Digicel, Kubuli, Depex Color Lab and Marpin 2K4 Ltd.

You scrutinized the picture very well. What do you think? It is not a cocktail party. They are out in the open, on the trails. You expected them to use the best of table cloths?
