Nayee explains resignation from WCK ; outlines future goals

Nayee

Former member of the WCK band Neijel “Nayee” Jno Baptiste has reassured his fans that his recent resignation from the popular band is simply in order to pursue his dreams of being a solo artist.

Nayee, who served for 13 years with the WCK band, resigned on September 16th, 2012, a move he described as necessary for the realization of his dream.

The artist dispelled rumors that his decision was to undermine the band. “I have turned my attention to fully devoting my energy towards my immediate goal which is, to compose my debut solo album. Let me make it clear that my decision is not to undermine the band, WCK and WCK music will continue to grow,” he said at a press conference on Friday.

He said at present he is a solo artiste under the Fire Nation Entertainment label and is willing to work with any artiste or band, including the WCK, on a contractual basis.

In 2004, Nayee left the band to pursue a solo career. However returned the following year. He reassured his fans that this time will be different since his knowledge and experience in the industry had significantly increased.

He added that some of his plans for his career included year-round releases, high energy performances, videos and collaborations with local and international artistes.

Nayee expressed gratitude to the WCK band for recognizing his talent and the opportunity to perform internationally.

Meanwhile Dominica Festivals Committee Events, Director Nathalie Clarke, urged the artiste to cater to his fans every time he writes and produces a song.

“The most popular songs that stay on the hit lists for weeks are because patrons come to hear themselves or see themselves on the stage; they come to hear a reflection of what is going on in their world … think intelligently when you’re writing your lyrics,” she said.

Clarke urged the artiste to ensure that bouyon music does not get lost when doing collaborations with other genres of music.

Nayee’s debut album “The Chronicles” will soon be on sale.

It is so discouraging that a few of you who instead of supporting the brother in the next chapter of his career choose to demean him. Shoot for the stars my brother. There is no limit!

Be sure to expand your horizon. The key is originality (be yourself), versatility (do not limit yourself to one genre of music), good management, collaboration and see yourself on the international stage. Also, remember that good lyrical content; the vibes in life that resonates with people is what will make you succeed in the music industry. There are other Dominican artists who have made it internationally. These are the folks with home you want to connect to help you as you traverse this road.

Don’t be discouraged by the critics. If anything, WCK should be very supportive of you.

Stay positive my brother. God bless!

WCK needs to be INVESTIGATED!! Authorities need to go down into the legal documents and accounts of that band. Something is VERY fishy about them. Very fishy! :-?

I admire your move to pursue your dream even if some people don’t understand it! We die hard fans need to speak to the management of the band to get you on that truck for jouvet or else we rebeling against them. You said you have no issue working with them so i take your word for it! WCK, let go your pride and hire the man or else we are going to start to think you greedy and have no respect for your fans! @ Hope: You are so damn right. If we are to put some of our so-called Dominican artistes with international exposure next to Caribbean-based international vocalists like Machel Montano, Jah Cure, Christopher Martin,Fay-Ann Lyons, Etana etc. all we hear our Dominican artistes doing is mouthing words, not singing. They talk and not vocalize. Tasha P & Dice ayo ain’t in dat. I refer to bouyon artistes like Benji and Nayee etc.

the management is something else huh. i came form newyork for independence, if the man resigned since September, what was he doing on the wcmf stage? would he not have been hired? Where is all the controversy coming from for carnival? Show respect to your fans Mr. Manager!

There is no money in selling music in Dominica. The same fans who big you up are STEALING music every day. The level of piracy means thateven the stores selling your CD’s are pirating other peoples content.

The only way people make money is performance fees. WCK are poorly run but at least they have a brand. Nayee is a talented guy but noone will turnout to see Nayee sing. So your future in Dominica is going to be about sharing stage with the one group of shouters or the other.

I wish you luck Nayee but the truth is harsh.

    • truth
      January 14, 2013

The truth is, much people dont want to pay for the entire band anymore. the truth is he seems to be working towards a market outside of Dominica as well, the truth is the fans are still calling for him, the truth is anything is possible and the biggest truth is there IS money in music, only if you go about it the right way.

        January 14, 2013

oh please, you all know thats what you do anyway… if you can’t be bothered to go buy a album you’re going to go download it off the internet anyway… shaking my head… making a big thing outta nothing, typical, cause if the government had to arrest people for piracy, half of the worlds population would be in prison

There is something about this whole movement that got me thinking really positive about the music, Dominica and myself. First, this man makes great music (with a band, in a duo or on his own), secondly, Dominica just got MORE music to send out to the world! wck got, triplek got, asa got, krossvibes got, now he got! Thirdly, you HAVE TO RESPECT a man that follows his dreams. I cant be mad at you Nayee. I am a WCK fan but if you got to do what you got to do, i aint mad at you! ALL THE BEST!

Was listening to Balance Batty on a local radio station. Music in d/ca was on its way back then.. then everyone in the group wanted to go solo like these bands make that much money that there is a humongous market for dca music. Geez boy step the music up beyond d.can listeners.

RAH was the founder of bouyon music and he was a member of the wck band for years he left for the exact same reason as nayee and what has become of him now??? he is a dead letter…God forbid nayee will not become a dead letter too

    • Dell
      January 14, 2013

Rah did not leave in 1999, Rah was forcibly put on a 6 months sanction for behavioural issues related to the band. He decided within that time to form his own group and pretend he didnt need the band.

Nayee actually wrote a resignation letter and has a set plan for a solo career.

The road may not be easy but I applaud his courage and wish him the best.

A you really serious Nyee? You need to take a look of those who have gone befor you and where are they now, Where is Rah after his departure from a musical establishment like the WCK? Your dreams stood a better chance working along with the band that made you a know figure in the entainment industry, Lets see how long is the race going to be this time?? If your yard stick is Marshall Montana, your approach is totally wrong, you now need to go back to the drawing board

Why should he worry about people before him? Ever wonder if God is making a way for this young man. and ofcourse, if he looks towards montano as inspiration then hats of to him. machel is a millionaire playing around the world. as individuals, we always look up to someone, even if is our parents, neighbors or teachers. I will support you because you will be a representation of Dominica and we all know that you can represent for the music. It’s humble and shows respect to the fans that you could explain your move publicly. I see you have no business issues with the Band so i hope they will hire you for the carnival. Thes bouyon artists need to learn to sing- go do some voice training. All of them – triple k , CK and the other bouyon ands need to understand that to get recognized as artists they must define themselves as either singers or bouyon rappers. Is Benji for example singing or just chanting.
